is it possible to rehire Tretiak as our goaltending coach?

I know you guys revere him because of the Can-USSR series, but he did very little coaching of Eddie and Hack in the 90s. He was too busy running for office at home. Not to mention, he was not some awesome end all goalie. He was good, don't get me wrong. But there are much better coaches out there and Steph is not the problem. Nor are the goalies. It is TEAM D and the defensive pairings that keep us getting beaten.

I have been backing the goalies since the beginning of the season, but I would take Tretiak over Waite any day.

and Tretiak was one of the greatest goalies ever man, and even if you don't want to give him credit for Belfour, Hasek, Tbo, Hackett etc. How about his summer goaltending school where he taught Theodore, Brodeur etc.

I give him credit for passing on some knowledge to them. But he wasn't a coach in the modern sense. He didn't work with them for several hours a day all week every month and then give them training agendas for the summer. He came to the states for 10 days at a time about once a month or so during the season.

As much as i love Ruutu he isn't worth a first round pick. **** that shit. Canes aren't getting a first rounder for him from anyone...then they have balls to ask for a prospect on top of that. Ballsy. I understand that its not really a selers market right now so what is available a higher price tag can be thrown on but give me a break.

3rd rounder and prospect makes more sense or even a second.

Canes are kidding themselves

I'm like the only one here but I don't want Ruutu back at all. Nothing against the guy but I just have no desire to get him into a hawks jersey again

is it possible to rehire Tretiak as our goaltending coach?

Last I heard he's like the head of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation or something like that

I'll go ahead and post this so he can update his artcile.

Nash to the Big Apple?

2:33PM ET

The Rick Nash rumors are heating up. It's obivous that the Columbus Blue Jackets need to move some pieces before the trade deadline, but would they really be willing to deal the face of their franchise?

Apparently, they're at least willing to consider it at this point. And, if they do, the New York Rangers could make a strong push for the 27-year old. As Katie Strang of ESPN New York points out:

"Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson has declined to comment on the rumors, but was in attendance to watch the Rangers' 5-2 win over the Flyers in Philadelphia on Saturday. Blue Jackets scouts have also been on hand to watch the Rangers as recently as this Sunday."

That certainly won't put an end to the rumors. If the Rangers were able to land the star forward, they would have to be considered a favorite to challenge for the Stanley Cup -- even moreso than they are now. John Tortorella's squad already has the best record in the Eastern Conference, combining a gritty style of play with the offensive talents of players like Marian Gaborik and Brad Richards. Adding a gifted scorer like Nash -- who has become accustomed to creating offense with little help -- to the equation would make an already dangerous team potentially lethal.

And for those wondering...

more of the same.

Coach Q on hot-seat?

1:12PM ET

Joel Quenneville | Blackhawks

The rumblings related to Joel Quenneville's job security are increasing which each passing loss by the Chicago Blackhawks. Quenneville himself acknowledges the team's recent poor fortune is the type to result in a few calls for the head coach's job.

"When you lose eight in a row it get's your attention," Quenneville said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Certainly, we're all aware of our business and how things develop. We can only control what we can control ..."

But the Blackhawks' bench boss isn't going anywhere. Not anytime soon, anyway.

"I'm very confident in Joel's ability (and) our coaching staff's ability," GM Stan Bowman told Comcast SportsNet. "Our players -- the effort is there. They're as frustrated as anybody, you can watch it on the ice. It's not working. There's no disputing that, but I don't buy that assertion (Quenneville's message is lost) at all."

And Chicago forward Patrick Sharp implies firing Quenneville could be an unpopular move, as far as the dressing room goes.

"We believe in him and I know that if something were to happen there would be a lot of unhappy people in the room right now as far as players putting that on themselves ... There's no doubts (about) Joel, that's for sure."

The Blackhawks are thought to be very interested in dealing for a top-four defenseman, and maybe some forward depth, ahead of the Feb. 27 deadline. You can rule out any potential coaching change until well after that date.

I learned a long time ago any thing that comes from hockeybuzz.com is less credible than a history channel original program.

Just a comment...There would be guys in the locker room not happy with the firing of Q. Maybe, but with the way they are playing, do they need to be happy or deserve to be happy?

No, that is just the shit that every hockey player says when their nice guy coach is about to get shit canned.

If I was Kane, Sharp, Stahlberg, Bolland, or any other player that has been shuttled from line to line and position to position all season long, I would not be standing up for Q right now. Q'sRLG is to blame for the offense sucking. Anyone that has ever played a game of pickup hockey understands just how tough it is to play a team game when your linemates change every shift.

Per JJ the Eklund protoge:

Nash

for

Sharp

McNeill or Saad (not both)

Clendening

#1 pick in 2012

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Are you kidding me? I would take Sharp any day over that cherry picker. Saad is going to be great, and that Clendening kid was killing it in the Beanpot last night. I would make that trade in a heartbeat if I was BJ fan. If the Hawks do it I give up.

Well, exactly. The best part is that this JJ character is supposedly a Blackhawks fan and STH. No fan of this team would ever advocate trading Sharp. He is the only guy doing his job out there.

Prepared to get roasted for this, but as much as I like Sharpie (and I do like/respect him ALOT)....for Rick Nash, I'd absolutley take that. People may want to get down on Nash, but remember he's played in Columbus with absolutley NOONE to work with. You put him w/ any combo of Toews Kane or Hossa and I'd be willing to bet he'd put up 45 plus a year. Again don't get me wrong, this isn't discounting Sharp at all, but yu would have to give something quality to get a player of that caliber---Nash is an ELITE talent, which will be shown when he does geet dealt to a team that can put something around him and gives him better talent to work with than Zherdev or Peca or an about to fall apart Fedorov. It's a moot argument because it's not going to happen, but as good as Sharp has been, I personally roll the dice on this one if given the chance.

For the record, I am not advocating shopping Sharp around...As I said I am a #10 fan, just saying if CBJ GM calls w/ that propoal, I listen
