Carcillo just isn't a top line player. It's a stupid move. If they want more grit on the top 2 lines, go get it... stop playing players where they don't belong. Where was Stan when van Riemsdyk was traded to Toronto? Evander Kane is floating out there... there's plenty of physical players available that can actually do something with the puck. Carcillo will never be one of them.

Since when? E.Kane inked his new deal with WPG right before the CBA expired. He got his sweet monies too.

ETA: Have you seen the remaining FA list? It's garbage. Just like it was before the lockout. That's why there's been all of what 2 maybe 3 signings the past day? For God's sale Cam Barker got signed back into the NHL!

Andrew Brunette is available!!!

which reminds me

Carcillo on the top line > Brunette on the top line.

Not that this means anything..Brunette never belonged there just as Carcillo doesn't.

Never meant to look the FA route... saying there was plenty of physical top-six forwards traded for very little over the off-season. Ott and van Riemsdyk come to mind. E. Kane still is popping up in the rumor mills. Bobby Ryan is another one... and lastly Ryan Malone.

I'm not saying I want any of these guys, but if they are looking for a physical guy to play with Toews and Hossa instead of putting Stalberg there -- go out and get it. Stop plugging holes with shitty players.

Thank God! Called the #FAIL on that the day he was signed. Stank of Q and knew he wouldn't be a fit with that skating despite his special net talents. Priase Jebus Stan only gave him a year to bust. I was all he's just too, TOO brutal a skater for the Hawks---like it will be a detriment to the team. But folks were all he's a reliable, non-injury prone vet who knows how to be in the right place and with his hands it'll all work out. "Put him with Toews!" folks shouted. Toews will get him the puck. "No he's ruining Toews' mojo, put him with Hossa!" Yeah. Just. No.

I don't mind Brunette. Attach some rockets to his skates and he'll be ok.

I wouldn't bring him back, but I also think another team should give him a chance.

There were not a lot of trades made this offseason IMO. And in terms of FA, after Suter-Parise the ones we remember are the ones that saw average to good hockey players get grossly overpaid. Jamie van RIemsdyk fetched the Flyers fucking Luke Schenn. Luke Schenn! Philly was looking to improve their blue line with some stud talent. That is what the Hawks or any other team in JVR talks would have had to give up comparably. This was a talent for talent, at the Draft trade. Bobby Ryan as much as I keep whinging I want him so do the fans and GMs of 28 other teams and Bob Murray still hasn't moved him so I have to believe the prevailing speculation from the summer that Murray is asking for gross overpayment. You can't have a Top 6 of all-stars with a hard cap. You know how many coaches would give their fucking left nut to be able to say they have Toews-Kane-Hoss-Sharp-and now apparently Bolland in their Top 6? Now you've got the fucked up scenario where sure you can spend $70 mil this year so anything you do trade for that isn't "plug" had better be for one season or else have the sweetest fucking cap hit ever (and why would anyone deal this person?) because next year getting back down to $64 mil won't be easy.

Luke Schenn couldn't even crack the Leafs top-4 defenseman last year (only did it one year), what makes him a stud? Even Cam Barker had a good year once. Hjalmarsson is better. My point is, if the Hawks want that physical player for the top line, go get him. We don't have one of those guys right now, and it sure as hell isn't Carcillo. Personally, I am comfortable with our roster as it stands (I just think we need a real right-d for the 2nd pairing)... I would rather see something like this:

Stalberg/Toews/Kane

Saad/Sharp/Hossa

Kruger/Bolland/Frolik

Shaw/Mayers/Carcillo

Kane and Hossa could be interchangeable. I'm not sure I like Saad in the line-up yet, but he seems like he's got the hot hand in Rockford lately. If they want a bit more grit, instead of Saad maybe try Smith there.

I don't think Hjalmarsson's better than Schenn at all and esp. considering Schenn is all of what 22? and already has 4 full NHL seasons under his belt. People think Leddy was thrown to the proverbial wolves by being thrown on the Hawks at such an early age after he left the NCAA how about the fact that TOR activated Schenn's ELC a few months after he was drafted. Drafted 5th overall I'd add. TOR didn't allow him to develop as a Dman at all post-Draft. He's still so young he's at an age where most people would expect a Defensive prospect to maybe just be finishing up some development in the NCAA or CHL or just beginning some Pro development in the AHL. He's still got plenty of time to get more TOI, more repsponsibilities, and get better and he hasn't been bad (only his sophmore season looks sluggish compared to his other 3 and it was't that terrible stats wise). He's big, he plays a tough game, he's young, he'a about as close to perfect when it comes to not being injury-prone as one could wish for in a Dman, and oh yeah, the past two season he's been Top 10 amongst all players in hits and 1st when it comes to Dmen only. . .something Hjalmarsson could only wetdream of. And he scores more than Hjalmarsson to boot. All for the same cap hit as Hjalmarsson. That smells like a Dman the Flyers would give up JVR for esp. for their type of game, Hjalmarsson not so much. Barring injury Schenn's got nothing but high upside IMO as should be expected from someone who was so highly touted and so highly drafted. He's been coming along just fine and I'd expect him to continue to considering how injury depleted the Fylers blue line is---he should see even more action and I see no reason why he won't continue to kick ass hitting everything that moves.

While I too don't believe Carcillo is a top line person, if he can do the things he does effectively enough to open space and draw attention/pressure off of Kane and Toews to allow them to do their thing... then I'm all for it. I'm sure this may be the reasoning, I'm just not sure of the actuality.

Oh, this is definitely the rationale just as it was last season when he started on the Hossa-Kane line and looked good in the beginning with all going according to plan and him opening up space for them effectively. If this is Q & Co.'s plane then I just have to hope for similar results and that it doesn't deteriorate over time. I'll assume since most everyone is re-charged from the extended R&R that they should have some jump once things get started on Saturday. . .but 10 out of 12 on the road will still be brutal to counter now matter how conditioned everyone is. Crazy season is CRAZY!

I really hope that they come out swinging hard with the 10 of 12 on the road and really psyche themselves up for it to perform well. It's like when really good teams raise the level of play against really good teams because they know it's going to be a challenge, but then sometimes don't look all that great against bad teams because the intensity isn't there. I hope they really bring the intensity the first 12 games to overcompensate for the road trip. They should all be fresh and ready to go as well for the most part.

Oh, my! OH, MY! I do believe I have just read the first insanely ridiculous CHI roster trade proposal on HF for 2013 and in fact it's SO BAD and SO INANE it will likely hold-up over the next 11 mos. and retain it's title on 12-31-13. I can't even believe it was concocted by someone who's an actual Hawks fan.

Here's a trade for ya Ton, LOL!

CHI gets Ladd

WPG gets 2013 1st, Teravainen, Saad, Stalberg, Frolik (and they are perhaps willing to do more)

Good Lord, 2+ seasons later and people still can't stop fellating and mooning over Ladd.

I must say as i travel around the Hawks intwewebz I do enjoy seeing all the fans who throw up the 2013 1st like it's rice at a wedding and sometimes even the 2013 2nd and 3rd clearly completely oblivious to the fact that as of right now, CHI doesn't have it's 2013 2nd or 3rd. . .and as coincidence would have it they already are in WPG's hands, LOL! Jesus. Speculated deep draft and you toss out the 1st and the Hawks don't fucking pick until the 4th Rd.

I love Ladd, he's a great teammate, works hard, above adequate production, captain worthy on the Jets. Would love to have him back. But I'm not sure he's even worth the 1st round, let alone plus any other piece...

Well folks at least ONE positive thing came out of the lockout and I am surprised more people haven't mentioned it---Jesse Rogers was moved off the ESPNChicago Hawks beat and onto the Bears beat a long while ago. This of course came after The Sun-Times' Adam Jahns was also permanently moved off the Hawks and onto the Bears beat but I didn't dislike Jahns so that one kind of sucked when he alerted folks on Twitter at the beginning of the Bears season.

Why do we need Centers, we have a shit ton of them here... Toews, Bolland, Mayers, Sharp, Kane, Pirri, Kruger, and I'm sure some that have played... smith? /sarcasm

With Montador out/done....it may not be wise to trade either Hjarll/Leddy this season. Depth is going to be so important...and the "7" now - all will probably be needed.

Whats the scoup on Stanton? Can he play? Is he better/different than Olsen?

I actually think Ladd would be a perfect fit for our 1st line LW need. He doesn't have the raw talent, but he plays hard and is one of the smarter guys on the ice, has just enough wheels to not be andrew burnette and stay with Toews and co.
