8 episodes is plenty of time to develop characters.
You can develop a character in a 15 minute short better than what the writers are attempting to accomplish in season 2.
Part of me wants to stop watching this train wreck now, the other part wants to see the "payoff."

Watched the finale last night only because I wanted to see what they ended up doing with the stupid ass plot. Whoever wrote that series shouldn't get another job EVER based on what I saw. Despite having 3 or 4 very good actors and actresses who actually did fit their roles, the writers never got their shit together. It was confusing from the start and never tied things together.

Are they going to continue that story? Wtf was that finale...?

Lol it was like they got bored with their shitty plot and just ended the season before concluding the story.

Those eight episodes were like grandpa slowly waddling his way into the room, ripping a long, juicy fart, waddling out, and you're stuck with the brown cloud of ass dust he's left for you to wade through to safety.

Vince Vaughn's demise was pretty lame.

His and Colin Farrel's were kind of meaningless... Vince got stabbed cuz he wanted to keep his suit.... Colin got lit up trying to outrun some mercs in the woods.... and I kind of didn't care by the end.

They built us characters that were slimy and uncaring towards most people and then they killed them and it was hard to care.

They built up mystery during the season and then ended it like "J/k there is no crazy scary bad guy, just some kid who wants revenge"

The story ended much the same as it began.... crime, slimy cops, slimy politicians, money, corruption.... yeah some of the assholes died but the ending had the slimy mayor's son taking over after murdering him, the slimy Cop who killed Colin Farrel still alive and in charge, new people running the criminal enterprise in Vinci.

I would say 90% of the season meant nothing.... Casper's death didn't even mean anything.

It the last couple minutes they show the McAdams character lay out all the evidence to a journalist. We are supposed to assume that all the remaining bad guys get exposed.

Season two was lame compared to season one. It seems Pizzolatto took five years to write season one, when it was a hit, they gave him a month to write season two. If there is going to be a season three, give the man some time. Or maybe he only had the one good story in him.

It wasn't good, but to act like it was the worst show in the history of television is bullshit herd mentality. If the only TV shows you have ever seem are TD season's one and two, then yes it is the worst thing ever. If you've ever tuned into a network TV, then no, not even close.

I never said it was the worst show on TV.... I actually thought Vice, Rachel, Taylor, and Colin all acted their part pretty well.

The story was shit though.... all that "Where is this going" and it went no where.... no big bad guy killer.... no justice for the wronged.... they didn't even conclude the story at the end.... they left it to us having to I guess assume that evidence brings down all the corrupt people.

Vince Vaughn died defending his suit lol...

I think the story could have been saved if there was something more sinister waiting at the end of the story.... a climax to the story that, good or bad, gave you a conclusion, but they didn't do that.

It was not the worst TV ever, but it was one of the shittiest storylines I have ever watched on TV.

I only quoted you to show that the ending implied some justice was served. The "worst show ever" comment was directed at some of the other posters on this page. The hatred for the show has taken on an angry mob feel that I don't think is justified. It just comes off as follow the leader lemming rage.

I pretty much agree with your take on everything except the bad guys ultimately getting busted.

Vaughn's love of his suit outweighed his love for his wife. What's the problem?

I agree this season was a huge disappointment. I at first thought he didnt give up his suit because of his pride. But after reading online just to figure out what the hell the seasons story was even about I remembered he had the bag of diamonds in his pocket. He gave the the million in cash hoping that'd be enough to get them to leave while he hung onto the couple million dollars worth of diamonds. He actually got stabbed right through the bag of diamonds. You can see them stuck in the stab wound.

Yeah I forgot he had those diamonds in his pocket.

Kind of coincidental that the dude wanted his fucking suit after he asked for a ride which conveniently led to a confrontation that killed Vine Vaughn.

Also, Vince was pretty aware... pretty good at surviving, but he didn't notice a pair of vehicles full of Mexican gang bangers boxing him in on the freeway and attempt to escape.

And on that note, Colin Farrel's decision to not go to the boat, makes sense.... but his decision to go into the isolated woods where those dudes could kill him without witnesses made no sense to me. Why not drive them into downtown LA, try to lose them somewhere Urban.... at least force them to kill you in the daylight in front of witnesses or Cops not loyal to Vinci.... **** go speeding by a state trooper and get him to pull you over, then the guys chasing you have to kill you in front of a Cop or kill a Cop out in the daylight.

That writing.... good god.

I forgot about the diamonds, that character had been preaching the need for money to escape. Good call.

I still think the show was two things:
1. A huge letdown after season one.
2. Better than most shit on television.

I think they rushed to come up with a story for the 2nd season and it showed.... IMO the production quality was there... the acting quality was there.... its just that you put together all the pieces to tell a shitty story.

Those Hollywood types are an impatient bunch.

H: "Season one was a hit! Here's $1B give us another one, now!"

P: "But the first one took years."

H: "WTF is wrong with your laptop, we don't hear clicking!"

P: Cashes check "clickety click."

Yeah, makes sense.... and the model for True Detective.... being each season is its own story with its' own set of characters.... you cannot build off of season 1 and expand it or inspire from it.... LOST seemed like in season 2 they were surprised they were such a hit and had a treading water season while they figured out where they wanted the story to go, then they came up with that "introduce mystery questions every episode" model and they ran with it.

You cannot do that same kinda thing with True Detective.... you have to write a 100% new story every year, all of your previous characters and plot lines are trashed.

That is a tough model if you don't have good story ideas already in mind.
