To stay in the NHL.

Zito is Maddens and Burrish's agent. I also think Zombrano's although I could be wrong on Z. Madden and Burrish for sure.

Correction not Zombrano's agent.

Here is a list of his clients....

Adam Burish

Robbie Earl

Patrick Eaves

Valtteri Filppula

Jeff Hamilton

Ville Koistinen

John Madden

Antti Miettinen

Cory Murphy

Petteri Nokelainen

Brad Norton

Tuukka Rask

Brian Rafalski

Tuomo Ruutu

Sami Salo

Tim Thomas

Kimmo Timonen

James Wisniewski

Antti Niemi
Interesting list. Lots of Finns, goalies, and guys from the Midwest.

Wonder how the Rask negotiations will go when Zito has to point out he has usurped another of his clients?

I bet Zito is kicking himself for signing Rask to a two-year deal just before the 2009-10 season got underway. He would have cashed in big time considering how well Rask did.
So according to Capgeek we have roughly 3.1 million available cap space. Is that with Toews and Kaner's bonuses included or excluded?

Capgeek.com numbers
Should be excluded, but it also does not include Hendry yet. Least I don't think it does.

So does anyone know how we stand capwise? Are we over or under and how much?

I think it actually includes the bonuses. But it does not include Hendry and is for an 18-man roster. But $3.1M is a decent amount of space to round out the roster. The Turco move instantly brought the team into a tenable position cap-wise.

We are under like 1.8 if Hendry is resigned at what he was at before. Cap Space has it right. Becuase I don't believe they have Hendry signed. Or as right as it could be.

Was Hendry making 1.3 last year? I suspect he might be signed for less, since they didn't qualify him. Either way, we should know shortly.

So, Hendry at the same salary would give us $2.4M in room to fill out the roster, not 1.8, right?

CapGeek has the bonuses factored in, so the Hawks have ~3m to spare with 18 players signed.

Okay bring in two league minimum guys and call it a day. Keep about 1.5 million in cap space in case of injuries or trades.

I don't think they will do that. I think they will pay up for the last defenseman. Say, about $1 million for that guy. They may cheap out with the final forward, but I definitely think the Turco move was done because they didn't want the 5/6 defense pairing to be a weak link. They saw what happened to Philly in the finals by rotating just 4 guys back there.

I had an interesting conversation the other day about the timeline of the Niemi scenario. Three weeks prior to arbitration there was a $2.175 million three year

deal offer on the table at which time the Hawks were already looking at Turco.

One week prior to the hearing the Hawks made a second offer but for a one year deal. That amount I did not ask.

I asked do you think that Niemi was naive to the situation and how it was unfolding?

The response, we would like to think that and it appeared to be the case.

I can not tell you who told me that but it was someone involved in the discussions.

One thing appears to be certain and that is the Zito commentary here and what an

ass he is as an agent. I wonder if it is true if Antti has some type of official recourse

against his own agent or do you just chalk it up as pure ignorance? We may never

know and it is a question I would love to ask Antti.

He evidently also plays at Johnny's and whines about any type of contact.
