All those watching Pan Am and Playboy Club, just watch old episodes of Mad Men. These other shows are just tired attempts to rip off Mad Men. Which is one of the best shows I've ever watched. If you haven't watched it you should.

Unfortunately most shows only get 2.

Yeah you need at least 5 episodes before axing a show.i wish I could remember the show I actually didn't like the first 4 episodes and by episode 5 I liked because it finally started going. Might have been How I met your mother.

Every show rips off some other show. Who cares? Do you enjoy it yes or no? That's all that matters. I mean to all those that watch American Idol, X-Factor, So You Think You Can Dance, etc, etc. Guess what Star Search bitches.

So again big deal they are ripping off Mad Men. As long as it is entertaining, why not

Well in the case of The Playboy Club, people chose not to watch it or it would still be on..

While the Playboy show didn't look good to me either, I too feel for the local crews who will suffer because of it's cancellation.

And I'm thinking I'm gonna wait for rental/dvd for the Ken Burns thing (mostly because I don't know when I'd catch it from the beginning)... the Redeye gave it a really good review that highlighted Chicago's role in the doc.

The third/final episode last night really got into the blood and guts Chicago portion of the history of prohibition.I knew it was gonna be lurid when I saw it had a brief disclaimer at the start. The infamous booze gang wars. Lotta archival pictures of a lot of executed people---I am sure the Chicago History Museum (for the record even, after all these years I still HATE this re-naming---it will ALWAYS be the Chicago Historical Society to me bitches!) was invaluable to the filmmakers.

Why do you hate the name? I see no big deal? Is it one of those pet peeve type things? Like how I hate the Blackhawks store because it will always be HawkQuarters?

Because it was known as the Chicago Historical Society for the first 37 years of my life and then 5 years ago they up and changed to the uber-generic Chicago History Museum. It's lame. Much like Marshall Field's on State will always be only Field's to me (and why Macy's has not gotten a cent of my money since the name change), more importantly the Sears Tower will ALWAYS be the Sears Tower (this one is a TRUE civic disgrace), and next year once the new children's hospital opens I can not imgaine a scenario where before I die I will ever get acclimated to calling it anything other than Childen's Memorial. Its's just the way things were for the overwhelming majority of my life so far versus relatively brief histories with their shiny, new names. I fully admit it's a stubborn proclivity born of being a nostalgia whore.

I've been waiting to see anyone would say something here... a review kind of turned me off of it. Sounded like it's all mood and little substance.

Without giving anything away, I would not agree with that assessment. What type of horror/suspense do you normally like?

I thought it had a creepy, unsettling vibe, and the actors are good. I'm probably going to rewatch the first episode since I missed a couple scenes, but I'm almost certain there are some nods to classic horror films, The Shining being one of them. Let me know what you think, I'm curious! If it helps pique your interest further, I know others who enjoyed it as well.

I really hate these dumbass ghost shows. Ghost hunters, paranormal U etc etc.

Watching these shows is like jerking off and stopping just short of the payoff. Because they never do and never will get any solid evidence of anything and in the previews and "up next" segments always show shit like they really found something, then you find out oh, Mario and Luigi's left testicles simultaniously itched, it must be a poltergeist.

Watch the South Park episode, "Dead Celebrities". They lampoon those shows quite well.
