I liked this show a lot - just got too bogged down in other television.

Anyone catch the original Being Human? I have it on Netflix and I just noticed they have the American version as well... anyone seen both?
I really like justified too, I can't stop seeing Boyd as Shane Vendrell which actually works out well because it adds another layer to the story of him being a changed man or not. I keep expecting him to go back to his ways any second, or have alternate plans or something... it's a very good dynamic and casting. From the previews it looks like they are going to take Boyd and Raylan teaming up to a new level this season. Should be good. It's a great show, I'm just not sure who the bad guys are going to be this season. But it doesn't really matter as long as they all die.

Being Human I've heard such great things about but haven't seen any of them and don't really know much about it. I saw the american version being pimped hard everywhere, back of magazines billboards and such. If I remember I'll check it out.

Boyd is such a great character, he compels you to trust him but in the back of your head you are always thinking about what his angle is. Waylon is a great character because he's a modern day badass but very flawed.

I saw the first season of the american one and all 3 seasons thus far of the british one. They are both very good. I would call them dark comedies. With the British version being a little darker. If you liked buffy or angel you would probably like these.

The premise is, A werewolf and a vampire move in together and try to live normal lives, helping eachother with their....shortcomings in the humanity department and discover the ghost of the deceased female previous occupant still living in the house they moved into who , which them being supernatural themselves can see and communicate with, becomes their unofficial 3rd roommate.

The American version almost exclusively follows the storyline first season of the british version up until the last few episodes of the first season where a major plot point has a different outcome, so from then on out its its own show.

The vampire struggles with bloodlust, and frequently slips up, whereas the werewolf just tries to avoid eating people on the full moon and the ghost tries to occupy her time as eternally undead. The werewolfe and vampire also clash from time to time over the fact vampires and werewolves generally dont get along. i.e. one night close to the full moon, in the American version, the werewolf(Josh) when he is stronger, goes out and curb stomps a bunch of vampires with his new werewolf friend. Likewise Josh is constantly antagonized and used by Vampires from Aiden's (the vampire) past.

A theme in both series, is vampires like to capture werewolves, and have "dog fights" they bet on, or stick a human in a cage with a werewolf.

Theres differing lore in the 2 versions as well, in the American version werewolves seem to age at a normal human rate, whereas in the british version, a Vampire Hunter werewolf had a flashback to when he got turned into a werewolf and it was clearly the 19th century. Mitchell the vampire in the british version avoids drinking blood at all, and eats normal human food, Aiden Gets blood from the blood bank at the hospital he works at but does not feed on people

Overall both are really engaging shows. I like there werewolf character in the american version (Josh) better than the British one (George)(they are both generally pussies, but George borderlines on annoying, Josh is funny). and I like the Vampire (Mitchell) from the british version than Aiden from the american one(hes a brooding self loather, whereas Mitchell is a little more happy go lucky, at least in the first 2 seasons).

I like the ghost in both shows.

If you watch the first season of either version, you will generally know exactly whats going to happen in the other version in the first season. The American version as more mini-plots as the seasons are longer than the british one, but the main story archs in the first season are pretty much the same except for the last couple episodes of the first season of the american one.

of course Anglophiles will never give the american version its due. The did a great job of using the same premise but making the characters unique from their british counterparts.

It's funny you mention the werewolf from the American version - he's one of the reasons I wanted to check out the American version. He's pretty funny.

I'll probably give the Brit version a try first - was a huge fan of Buffy and Angel and the plot of the show seemed pretty interesting.

Been catching up on How I Met Your Mother on Netflix. I can't say that there are too many shows on televison that actually make me laugh out loud. This one is definitely one that I get a good "lol" out of. Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segal are hilarious and the banter back and forth is really what makes the show.

Incase anyone is looking for another show to watch, I highly recommend Sons Of Anarchy. The first 3 seasons are on Netflix and they just finished the 4th season. It's a darker show but the story line is awesome and the twists are great.

In the 3rd season of the british one, theres almost no comedic aspects, shit gets real and had a very surprise finale.

Finally watched the first ep of the Brit version last night. I liked it although I totally get what you mean about the werewolf dude kind of being annoying. I'll probably try and catch the rest soonish - the thing I like about Brit shows is that they don't NEED to be so many eps in a season.

each episode is longer though too, I think they are over an hour a piece. Whereas the american is 50min episodes.

Anyone ever watch the IT Crowd? It's a pretty decent British TV comedy. You can stream it via Netflix. The first few episodes are kind of meh, but it really starts to get funny as the season goes on.

I haven't watched it but I just recently looked it up and it seemed funny and the cop from Bridesmaids is in it. I think i'm running out of shows, as I pretty much watch everything on HBO, Showtime, BBC, ITV and all the non-procedurals and comedies (I watch comedies, just not crappy ones) on regular cable. I love when there are awesome things out there that I haven't already seen. Thanks for the tip, phranchk.

Just expect there to be lulls filled with the typical British dry humor in there. I guess that's the case with most British comedies though.

After some discussion about Portlandia in the book thread I started watching it. The show is comedy gold. Some of the skits are somewhat meh, as it is with most skit shows, but overall its hilarious.

I caught a couple episodes this weekend as well. Loved the two of them trading song ideas over their answering machines...

I just started watching Portlandia based on these recommendations. Thank you!! I lurve the women's bookstore skits... hilarious. There is something magical in the faces made by Fred Armisen. Is it wrong that the opening sequence is still my favorite part of the show? It's perfection.

Yeah, I've been meaning to catch more - just trying to find the time.

After watching 1 episode of the Brit version of Being Human, I decided to watch one of the American version... ended up watching 3 of them. I actually think I like the American version a little better. In some ways, I feel like they tried to adjust what didn't work in the original and add it in (for instance, the special effects).

With that said, I do want to reserve some judgement until I've watched more of the British eps.

Anyone catch 30 Rock last night?

Christ on a cracker that show just keeps getting funnier... almost anything Tracey Morgan says is gold: "... right by Manhattan's Center for Penis Enlargement? The only reason I know of it is because a friend of mine goes there... his name is Tracey."

I was so happy to have 30 Rock back in my life last night. It was hysterical. So many great lines: "women's hell is also aroused dog's heaven," and nice people wear, "socks on their hands, no belt, roller skates." And all of Jenna's mean lines were amazing, "That was pretty good, You were trying to get me to commit suicide, right?" I can't remember her catchphrase exactly, but it was "climb back inside your mother." Or something equally gross.

Damn, I missed this show.

After Matt LeBlanc won a golden globe for a show I'd never heard of, I decided to watch a few episodes of... Episodes.

Anyone else see this one?

I like it, but it definitely wasn't what I thought it would be.
