I was actually always picked around last then they'd see me play and next time 2nd or 3rd pick.
I liked last night's episode. Lots of dischord in the group. Will be interesting to see what happens with Shane now.
sounds like me except i got along with everyone. there's a reason why i still listen to only '90-early '00's new york city MC's. kool g rap, rakim, mobb deep before they got shitty....on and on... shit i used to be the first white boy picked in gym class strictly cause of my shoes, "new shoes" was my nickname.
dudes had it worse than me for sure.
Dont get me started on shoes. I was raised by a single mother before me teens, and was rocking payless shoes, The grief I would get for not wearing a name brand pair of shoes. It was probably for the best, If I did have a name brand pair of shoes, I probably would have got my ass kicked and had them stolen from me. I am glad I was at least able to put it in perspective and realize the situation was due to certain individuals, and not an entire people. I imagine many other people that grew up in similar situations be they black or white, could have grown up to be horribly racist.

Degrassi is a Canadian teen drama that started in the 80s. A lot of the actors were kids and not kid actors and it was all about issues and being young, but not like after school specials. Sure, there were cheesy parts, but it was much more realistic and had great writing. It was easy to get obsessed and all Canadian kids/teens watched Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi HIgh. The original series ended in the early 90s. Then in 2001 they decided to revive the franchise with an all-new cast and it's been airing again since then in Canada and the US.
Degrassi in pop culture is pretty significant. Aaron Spelling tried to buy the rights to Degrassi, but couldn't get the deal made, so instead made Beverly Hills 90210. Yes, Degrassi was the inspiration for that show and a lot of other teen dramas since them. Kevin Smith is obsessed with Degrassi (all shows) and has referenced it in Chasing Amy and has appeared on the new show as himself. The rapper, Drake, was an actor on Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Anyway, the point it, Degrassi is awesome and is a damn fine representation of how awkward it was to be a kid in the 80s and early 90s. Shit was weird then.
I guess I can stop talking about Degrassi now.
They used to show some of the "Next Generation" shows and whatever came after that on WGN on Sunday mornings. One of the shows or something like it had Kristin Kruek (sp. ?) and that actress from Battlestar Galactica who's now on Hawaii 5-0.
I found a reason to hate at least half of the characters on Next Generation, especially that asshat, "Spinner". Also, the annoying creep with the long hair and glasses who looked like the Encyclopedia Brittanica infomercial smartass who went all "Carrie" on that Drake guy, who was also an asshat before getting shot by the creepy asshat.
Also, words can't describe the disappointment I felt when I later found out that Emma married that Spinner asshat.
My mom wasn't single but the parents were too cheap to buy one decent pair of Levi's. Instead of one pair of normal blue jeans that I could have worn for the whole week without the mockery they thought they were saving money and getting more value by getting me Sears 'Toughskins' brand that came in different colors, one for each day of the week.
Just to keep this on topic, I used to wonder why they didn't make Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno wear purple Toughskins on "The Incredible Hulk" like in the comics; one, I'm pretty sure they came in that color, two, Sears had a money back guarantee if they ever got ripped. Banner could have saved some money for cab fare instead of hitching all the time.
Shit I wore those until I was 13. Fucking hated them. Everybody else was wearing Levi's and laughing at me. And when I finally got Levi's and the knees ripped my Mom put those dorky iron on patches over them.
