316 OBP 20 HRs and 56 RBIs as 4th OF. Wouldn't hurt giving him atbats somewhere *first base* because it'd be silly to bench Soriano and Fukudome. Cubs should have saved $10M by not signing Pena.

If we had Colvin playing 1st instead of Pena...Castro would have 48 errors by now.

Yes, because that 400 PA sample size is really enough to say how he's been. Not that his career numbers are better, but there are so many unsustainable rates that he had last year.

That's pretty much most of his career right there though... he probably has less than 100 PA's outside of that season... so your stats to say he can never start are used in too small of a sample size too then.

How can he sustain them when you have 33 year old Pena taking ABs from him??? It doesn't make sense to have Colvin or any player ride the bench for Carlos Pena.

The Cubs are flawed top to bottom, and have to get their chickens in order starting with the ownership paying off their debts.

OK, so if Castro had done the same thing last year, we'd know that he can never be a starter despite the potential, amiright?

Nice argument. Your back is against the wall & that's what you come up with? Pitiful.

Castro didn't do that last year. That's really all that needs to be said.

again, what makes you think Colvin could play 1st base regularly?

Can you read? I said that my sample size is not much better, but that last year he had many unsustainable rates. Learn to read before you ask mommy if you can have computer time.

Carlos Pena is so much better than Tyler Colvin, it isn't even funny. How can you possibly say that it's a waste, when Pena has a better bat and a better glove?

what's it matter? Mark Trumbo and Tyler Colvin aren't the same person...it's impossible to say "it worked for person A so it will work for person B." too many variables.

I guess I see 400K spent better than $10M spent at the position.

If the Cubs want to go young, the Cubs need to give youth consistent and meaningful atbats. If he failed this year at being an everyday player, then the Cubs can move on. Now the Cubs don't know exactly what he can do, because they took his at bats away for no reason. When he did get atbats this season, they were meaningless.

I think spending money on Pena was done to protect Castro. Felt the need to get a gold-glover @ 1b. I don't agree w/ the money we gave him either...but I'd rather have him @ 1st for $10M than Colvin @ 1st every day for $400k.

I have my own computer with unlimited time, nice try at intimidation though,

No, they are similar, that's all... both hit homers but don't get on base or hit for a high average, and both have some decent potential... just a comparison.

Who said the Cubs want to go young? I see the 10 million better spent simply because of Pena's defense.

They took his at bats away because he was sucking dick. Pretty easy to see that.

He said IF.

And if they don't, we have some serious issues here.

boo. I hate comparisons like that. too many variables to logically make sense. Don't compare him to anybody. Rate his performance. He plays at a position that we're crowded in...has a low BA...an avg. fielder w/ an avg. arm...low OBP, doesn't walk....and could possibly hit 20 hrs...That's a 4th OF in Kansas City or Baltimore that we talk about for two weeks then disappears from the public eye completely.

And he never had at-bats to begin with, so they weren't really taken away.

Pena was actually a really good sign, whether you want to believe it or not. Especially with the way that his money was split up.

I get that you are saying you'd rather see Colvin, but Pena's bat and glove are so much better than Colvin's that it is money well spent.

But is there not a chance he could be an MLB starter at some point? CO says there is absolute 0 chance, I say there is a slight chance that I think we should test.

Don't worry, I'm used to it by now.

It's good the Cubs have Pena's glove, but that $10M could have went to signing Fielder next year.
