If it is 3 years, 23 MM, I'm guessing something like 5/8/10? I'm actually okay with this one.

Yeah that does make sense because they won't overpay on his first year. Because they don't want to overpay his arb numbers.

3 years 23 is not bad and he is not getting 10 mil a year this contract i actually like. I didnt know the cubs knew how to hand out a "good" deal.

The Cubs agreed to a three-year extension with closer Carlos Marmol, avoiding arbitration, the team announced. Marmol's deal is worth $20MM over three years, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times (on Twitter).

Only 20 mil over 3 years..even better

Since this looks like this will be it on payroll wise..Finally tally is 129.8...They stay under the 130 mil i think Ricketts allowed. So they took off 15 mil in payroll. Im not saying with FA this offseason but with the FA to be next offseason i want to see payroll go back up to 140-150. LAA,BOS,NYY all over 150. No reason y cubs cant.

No reason they need to be either.

This is just the exclamation point on a successful offseason for Jim Hendry. Took care of business on a very limited budget....way to go Jim!!

I'm ok with trying to keep the payroll in check until it prevents us from being aggressive in free agency. They should be able to compete for any FA.

Sure, but they don't need to be at 150 Million. They need a 1B, and a 3B. If they get Pujols, then it has to be that high to get a 3B (Probably A-Ram). But if we miss him and get someone along the lines of Prince Fielder, then if doesn't have to be over 150 Million to have a 1B and a 3B, unless they also trade for a 2B.

I don't really see a problem with spending more... If the owner is ok with it, I don't care.

Ya, but we don't NEED to have a payroll over 150 Million just because we CAN.

Ya, I'm not saying they should try to spend as much as possible but any given off season their hands should never be tied.
