Cmon now Mick. You, I and the majority of posters on here know what you created this thread for. You're not fooling many here.

I posted it because it's an alternative to the PFF fluff about how great the draft was. If you think I'm doing a "Oh no, we're fucked without Forte" thing, you're miles off base. I'd have done that when he first became a Jet if that was my agenda. I was also one of the people most excited about the Jordan Howard pick. I've also tried multiple times in the thread to emphasize that the changes causing so much skepticism about the offense is not just about the backfield, it's the line and the WR position too. So yeah, you couldn't really be more wrong. Nice try though.

That is like creating a Cutler thread and expecting it to not devolve into what it always does. Cmon fam. Try harder.

I think the D will be better, the O will struggle more so then last year but the team will be better as a whole.
Some players are going to have to step up.
I don't think Mick is off base here.
A work in progress which is fine.
My fear is turning into the Browns... I miss playoff football damnit.

Apparently it's you who needs to try harder since you don't seem to have any clue about the point of the article, or the many people who are giving their reasons (many of which are non-backfield related) why the offense looks to have regressed some.

That seems to be the general feeling from most people who are actually paying attention to what's being discussed.

One of the jobs of a GM (and a coach) is to predict which of the unproven players will step up and contribute. If Pace and Fox have faith that guys like Langford, Leno, Miller, Grasu, etc will develop into very good starters, why can't that be good enough for us fans who don't see these players practice on a day to day basis?

Other than a top of the first round draft pick, every player has a lot of question marks when they are entered into the starting lineup. Before any player can become a star, a coach has to recognize the potential and enter them into the starting lineup as an unknown commodity.

I prefer to use USA Today analysis when it agrees with my premise, else wise I ignore them. Them and PFF, Bleacher Report, CSN Chicago, ESPN, really just substitute USA Today for any of the opinion folk out there.

Generally our sentiment, correct?

I worry about some of that ish.

1) Forte

I think he'a already lost some burst. He seemed to by the end of last year. He was never a burner, but still. He was, however, dependable. And he was probably the top pass-catching RB in the NFL. I loved that play @ KC when Cutler picked up the ball and chucked it over Forte's left shoulder for a TD. Langford has the dropsies. Maybe Langford can work it out on the Juggs machine, IDK. I'm much more worried about losing Forte as a receiving threat than as a running or blocking threat.

2) Bennett

Bad year last year. Funny guy. Weird guy. Damn good TE when his head is on straight. Unless this UFDA is something, I'm scared to death of our TE crew. I don't trust Miller to stay healthy, and there's nobody behind him.

3) Gase

I think he & Cutler had a really good rapport. Cutler hugging him as the clock expired @ KC was cool. Our O wasn't setting the league on fire, but it was only year 1. Bennett sucked, Royal sucked, AJ missed half the games, our #7 pick missed the whole season. Throwing to castoffs makes it difficult to judge. But aside from Cutler sorta' tiring of the "What happens when you lose Gase?"-questions toward the end of the year, I do think he & Cutler worked well together. Dustups happen (Rodgers and McCarthy have them all the time), but I think it's important that your QB respects his coaches & vice-versa. Martz, Tice...I think there were some respect issues. Cutler & Gase seemed to click. I'm worried that this new Patton Oswalt-looking little guy...IDK...I fear Cutler could laugh him off and not respect him, thinking he can walk all over him. I know they supposedly like each other, but still. It's a fear I have.

Maybe JC is all grown with his family now, a changed man. Hoping this pairing works out well. I do trust the current head staff to hire good people to replace guys who leave a lot more the previous staffs.

I'm still bullish on the BEARS this year. We were competitive in every game in which Cutler started & finished last year, despite playing the toughest schedule in the league. I think they had the 3rd-highest winning % against playoff teams too. And the aforementioned losses scare me, but it's not like we haven't improved other things at the same time. Some losses, some gains. I listed the losses, not the gains. I think there are plenty of those.

I expect the BEARS to be in playoff contention at the end of the season. Despite having a young, good D...I thought MIN was overrated last year (not much of a Bridgewater fan). Yet they were a kicker shitting his pants away from the 2nd round of the playoffs. Who's to say what happens if/when you make the playoffs? I'm always excited going into the season. I'm more excited going into this season than I was going into last season. Fox has a history of having a much better team his 2nd year than his 1st, and I like the additions they've made.

If we are basing it off last year, Bennett really did check out and wasn't a big factor in our offense. Now if you told me we would trade Slauson and Forte for Whitehair (speculated as the best guard in the draft), Howard and White I would take it because one we are getting younger and two, these guys can do some damage this year and I don't expect much of a dropoff at all. What I feel is the real loss is losing Gase for Logains.

Count on your fingers from 22 to 32.

Now, how many fingers did you count?

Gase had some really shit play calling. Perhaps some of that could be blamed on Fox as I am sure in situations he was overriding what Gase may have executed.

Gase's play calling last year was for the most part top notch.

The best part is when he started on about common core. He probably doesn't have the slightest idea what common core is or how it's used, but saw something about it on a mass Email FWD about how it's up there with participation trophies and safe spaces in causing the pussification of young people, and how a return to "common sense" is needed. The same kind of common sense that uses "32-10=22" to show that being #22 of 32 is the 10th worst ranking.
