I don't call 20-something goals and 40 someodd assists "elite" skills.

If that's elite then 3/4s of the forwards in the NHL are elite, which, if I recall the definition of the word, is fallacy at best.

He was tied for 32nd in the league in points and he played all 82 games. He got smoked by guys younger also.

Before we start saying "elite", let's look at the production. I love the kid because he's ours, but he got outplayed by Teemu fricking Salanne this year.

If he were a leader, played some defense, checked a little, could KEEP the puck when anyone else got near him, and was useful on the PP and PK, maybe it'd be a different story, but the kid is a fancypants player who can't hit, can't fight off bigger players, and is ONLY good for scoring, and doesn't do a whole hell of a lot of that.

All that said, I'd still be defending him IF he wasn't out doing stupid shit all the time making us look bad.

And here's another thing: If you're making 5 million bucks a year do you need to be poaching some other dude's woman, and if so are you not man enough to say to her "ditch the frat boy and let's do this thing" or walk? What the hell. That's the most disturbing thing about the whole situation to me. Sack up kid. You're a millionaire. You gotta share a woman with a college kid?

Hmm maybe you guys forgot to count.. You notice his goal production.. He plays at that level for around the next decade.. You've got 370-400 goals..

That's a ton of production.

That's an elite player. Hence where we drafted him..

So whine and complain and ask to move him all you want.. Isn't happening.

You're right an elite player that was 32nd in points is clearly awesome.

That means that any other team is lucky to have 2 better players than him, and he doesn't need to be higher because we have Toews to be our elite player.

369 points in 5 seasons, that is 73.8 per season, and he is capable of getting in the high 80's. Yes, he had a bad year, doesn't mean write him off. 25.2 goals per season.

25.2 times 10 = 252, 252 + 126 he already has = 378 goals if he plays for another decade. Therefore Dewey, CNM was right that if he plays at that same level of production he such reach that range.

Called math, so he can can keep telling himself that.

no.just no. you are not "elite" based on potential.

Compelling argument. However, a 23 year old that is pretty much right at a point per game pace (both in the regular season and post season) is an elite player in my book. Has nothing to do with potential.

elite: the best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.

Loui Ericsson, Jason Pominville, Scott Hartnell, Jerome "I use a walker when I'm not on the ice" Iginla, Joffery Lupol, and others would argue "the best" with you about Kane. And YES, I purposely picked players I wouldn't call "elite" who outplayed Kane AT LEAST this year if not the last two. No Stamkos, no Ovechkin, not even a ***** Kessler.

Does he have potential? Yep. What does that mean? Still hasn't done shit. Yes he is a damned good scorer when he does it, but if anybody here doesn't think this would have been a better team with Gaborik, Eberle, Tavares, or any of 15 other guys, you're blinded by the Indian.

Hossa outscored him AND Hossa HITS, he backchecks, he poke checks, he plays defense, he scores shorthanded, he's a gorilla with the puck, he is great on special teams, etc., etc., etc.

Two years ago Kane looked like he was going to be an elite player. A Stamkos-type guy. The last two years he's regressed. He sucks ass on the dot and probably is at about 40% of faceoffs. I'm trying to remember a hit. I'm trying to remember him winning a battle in a corner. I'm trying to remember his goals this year and since there were only 23 it shouldn't be that hard. Oh, that fancy between the legs move in the shootout was nice.

Yep. He's a good player. He had one more goal this year than Stalberg. Elite? No. Being the 32nd ranked scorer every year for 15 years and putting up a long slightly above-average career doesn't make you elite. If it did Jose Cruz would be in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

god you FAIL so hard!

Potential is there. you cannot call someone elite based on potential. you are basing those figures off of playing another decade with again "potential"

just an FYI: 378 goals isnt elite. lets be real k?

Patrick Marleau elite too?

NHL Goals Leaders - All-Time - National Hockey League - ESPN

^^^^ thats elite

Meh, no problem. You've got plenty of guys worthy of a letter on a chest on this team already. Can't all be machines like Toews. It'd be nice if some of number 19's boring tendencies would rub off on number 88.

I don't think Toews ever was "boring." He had some demons in his past and learned from them...or learned not to get caught.

With the awesome HOF standards they have now, it's just a matter of time for Cruz; I can feel it!

Kane's value is in points. So when he's not producing them at a high rate, he's not at his most valuable. He's not a hitter, he's not a board battler. He was trying to play a more complete game...especially when Toews went down (Kane was already having a "down" year prior to that I agree). Ultimately, I don't disagree with your assessment on Kane's elite-ness. At the same time, I'm not sure why you are comparing/contrasting him to Hossa. Hossa is not a hitter, but will register a few here and there simply because he has size and with that size he will battle along the boards. He has like 6 inches and 30 pounds on Kane. He has the frame to do what Kane cannot, nor should not be doing. You're not really expecting him to be that type of player, right?
