Liking the show quite a bit so far... but last night I reached the episode where Tony's mother died.

What kind of fucked up abortion of grade school special effects was that?!?!?
I could let it slide if the exchange between Tony and the spliced together monstrosity in the chair advanced the story.. but it had nothing to do with anything.

Whoever made the decision to put that chair scene in the show should be beaten and thrown off a cliff.

They could have done the conversation over the phone if it was necessary to the plot (which it wasnt).

Had to give the show a break after that debacle. I will come back to it after I can clear the memory of that monstrosity from my head.

I forgot about that but don't remember a lot of slip ups over all.

Continuity wise it has been pretty solid.
As far as I recall about the time frame it was made, cable networks were not exactly rolling in cash- it is impressive what they achieved with budget being a concern.

James Gandolfini was a great choice for the role. I dont know if his fidgeting non stop is him or a directors choice, but the guy seems on edge every second.
The way he flips his food around and doesn't stop moving while he eats would make me want to reach across the table and slap the shit out of him.
Whatever the reason, his physical tics sell his anxiousness and agressiveness.

I remember that two minute scene, I didn't think it was very good. Somehow I managed to get past it and was able to continue to enjoy the best show in the history of television.

I am surprised to hear that some people didn't enjoy the Pine Barrens episode. It was nuanced and I understand that some people lack the ability to appreciate subtlety. That's a shame.

After Nancy died it threw them into a tailspin. Season 3 was actually supposed to be Tony pleading with his mother not to testify against him about the stolen plane tickets.

The CGI decision probably came in the heat of trying to figure out where to go. It was a bit of a stutter step (oww the references!!) but maybe an overreaction on your part to quit the show for awhile over it.

I tore through 2+ seasons in a week or so, several episodes some days... By break I meant a day or so!

Yeah, the Wire, blah blah, I know.

This show is the greatest.

Who else loves the Sopranos?

I'm actually watching Dexter. Probably will stop around Season 5. The rest was just ass. Showtime ruined such a great show by milking it. I heard they refused to let the writers kill off Dexter.

I rewatched Sopranos a couple years ago.

I stayed interested in the storylines, but was shocked at how bad some of the aspects were.

I kept thinking “This is awful, but I am interested.”

Each season saw a new guest character you wanted dead. They focused way too much on a couple of them. Fortunately they eventually got killed.

Tony’s wife was OK. Daughter was meh. Son was as bad as possible. Mother may have somehow been even worse.

But it kept my interest, and I will eventually watch it all again.

Showtime does a great job of ruining good ideas. Homeland could be/should be so much better. But of course, they need to throw some little quirk in there like Carrie's bi-polar disorder.

That was tongue in cheek, there was nothing subtle about Pine Barrens, literally a shovel to the head. I loved the episode now I'm finding out ITT that some people didn't, and it making me sad.

I'm in season four of Dexter right now, and it's starting to piss me off at how badly they ruined this show. I forgot how incredibly good the early seasons were.

Yeah, I hated the whole incest crap. He should've been caught at the end of season five, then been on the run or something and ended in season six.

Season 4 is commonly considered one of the best seasons of Dexter. Most people feel it started to go down hill in season 5.

So I've been watching this for the first time. Saw this thread and saw it available on Prime and felt it time to take advantage of that free Prime video stuff. Pretty easy watching til this point halfway through season 5. Slow season hit a bit of a lull with not much really happening.
