The second to last episode of season 5 is one of the best in the series in my opinion, although the season as a whole did drag a bit

Season 4 is commonly considered one of the best seasons of Dexter. Most people feel it started to go down hill in season 5.

Is that the Lithgow season? Lithgow automatically makes anything better.

The Jimmy Smits season was absolute dogshit, and when I saw the downhill. I also think him going lumberjack was a cop out.

I thought season 7 of Dexter was pretty good. 5 and 6 were definitely weaker and then 8 absolutely sucked. I have a good feeling that Dexter will eventually come back. I just hope they don't **** it up even worse.

I figured that's what happened, but until recently Chase never confirmed it. It was his show he could have claimed any ending he wanted to.

Keeping in mind there are people reading this thread that haven't seen the ending yet.

There were people that had doubt's until now, probably wishful thinking, just wanted the family to live happily ever after, that was never going to happen.

Chase said his original plan for Tony's death was to show him going to a meeting with Johnny Sack and that's the last anyone ever sees of Tony. That could also have been ambiguous, whacked or flipped? Of course Tony would never flip, so yeah, whacked it is.

I'd almost argue that by the end

when he is finally entirely devoid of any soul or conscience, he might have been persuaded to flip

Yup, except for one thing.

Never seeing Meadow again. Tony never even liked that giant ****** AJ, a total embarrassment. Carm, meh. But Meadow was the light of his life. Dad's and their daughters, just look at Trump, no wait, don't, terrible example!

I think the ending was done in the way it was so those who wanted the happy ending could still have it if they chose to overlook all the obvious clues including Tony's favorite scene from the Godfather. The kicker, and something that was also foreboding, was the way they had Meadow struggling to parallel park when she reached the diner. While she struggles to park, the end draws near for dear old dad. As she enters the diner, it's lights out for dad before he even spots her.

Put me in the group that is glad Chase went with the ending he did, and not the one meeting Johnny Sack.

There was a great, but long, synopsis on that final scene that talked about the colors in that scene. If you look at that scene, everyone involved was wearing dark colors. Colors that you might wear at a wake/funeral. The synopsis even went as far as talking about the way they ate the onion rings.
Look at it again, and tell me you've eaten an onion ring like that. Instead, they ate them as if they were communion wafers.

I would have paid to see Tony mowing the lawn in a silk suit.

Football, and military school uniform.

In both cases he just passes out. You get the feeling through the whole show Tony is thinking "this can't be my kid". It's like the Simpsons, overachieving daughter, moron son.
