Lobster, Crawfish & Crab the roaches of the sea. I don't understand why it's so expensive either.

I think that's why at one time nobody ate them.
UNTIL they actually tried one, I guess.

Ever try lobster sashimi? It's awesome!!

Olives, mushrooms, and I think it's Thai food that used peanuts in their dishes.... but yeah, can't stand that shit.

Answer?
Only the very last one. All taste very different.
1) Wonton
2) Gyoza
3) Dim Sum
4) Perogi
5) Kreplach
6) Manti
7) Ravioli
8) Bulgogi Dumpling
9) Pot sticker

There's so many more too. If they tasted the same, then I could see why an over-simplification works, but they don't aside from maybe one side of the overlap being closer to another culturally and Asia is fucking epic in cultural diversity, why would anyone expect otherwise when it accounts for roughly 1/3rd of the world population.

Is this the right time to interject that dim sum is not a dumpling, but a wide set of foods that also happen to include several forms of dumplings?

Yes. Amazing too.

I'm with brett in a way: I hate most Chinese food. There's something about most of it that bothers me greatly.

You should give Asian food a chance, try some super authentic true to the region cuisine. I recommend an authentic Chinese dish most Americans don't even know about called Chop Suey pronounced /ˈtʃɒpˈsuːi/ if you try something that authentic and still don't like it, oh well, at least you tried the real thing.

Can I suggest Korean BBQ?
It's more suited to westerners in that it's meaty.

Aside from Egg Rolls and pot stickers, I prefer not to really get anything from the local Chinese restaurants - not meaning Panda Express. Maybe that's what you actually mean, but I just can't eat from a majority of those restaurants.

I say Panda Express because even most of local Chinese restaurants are hardly a tick better than fast food Chinese.

There is one local spot here that is actual upscale Chinese food and it is fucking outstanding.

I, much like you do not go for the Crappy fast Chinese food often, but once in awhile I need some eggrolls General Tso's chicken and a bunch of fried lice.

I also have found that Thai and Vietnamese do way better than Chinese at keeping closer to authentic and much much tastier than the normal Chinese restaurant.

That's all well and good, but when the waitress at Morimoto's explains gyoza as a pot sticker to the couple from Wheeling, she's doing it because it's a catch-all that everyone can understand.

I get what you are saying here, but understand that if you oversimplify things you can lose the nuance of what you are actually getting to eat. The waitress may be simplifying for you, but she is also under serving you with information. She could easily say they are similar to a potsticker, but have these specific differences.

Much like if you asked what type of beer they had on tap and they told you "We have thirty five taps, they are all beer, which would you like?" you would have no more information upon which to order.

When someone says "Potsticker" my mind conjures up a simple image of the frozen ones you can get at costco, that really aren't that bad, but when you pay 7.99 for six of them at a restaurant you feel like you may be getting the shaft a bit.

Anyone have balut before? (A balut is a developing bird embryo that is boiled and eaten from the shell. It originates and is commonly sold as street-food in the Philippines.)

I used to go to a place at the beach that had crablegs on the bar and i would eat nothing but the crablegs.

One time a waitress sat by our table on her break to spy to make sure i wasn't sharing.

Is it called Balut because that is the sound most people make when they first see it?

You realize that Vietnamese restaurants in the United States have to follow the same rules as all other restaurants right?

Never had liver and never tasted it. I remember feeding it to the dog under the table as a kid. Also sweetbread, Bologna , headcheese. Ecch.
