Polish in laws always talked about 2 kinds of kielbasa, smoked, and fresh.

This is what fresh looks like.

It's just raw like Italian sausage.

Yes fresh thanks #51. Do you're inlaws make it or where do they get it?

The official locations are Chicago (Daley Plaza), Naperville, and Milwaukee. A bunch of suburbs and city neighborhoods have them now, I went to one in Schaumburg a few years ago.

Going into the city for Christmas is a family tradition going back long before Christkindlmarket arrived, I've been going down there for 55 years. When I was a kid the big deal was the windows of the State Street stores and the giant tree, when my kid was little it was FAO Schwarz and the American Girl Doll Store, then Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier. Now our kid is an adult it about shopping, eating, and drinking, and taking the train of course.

When you said this:

That's right where my head went, best beer, sausage, potato pancakes I have ever had. Lucky I don't work downtown or I would look like Brett.

We've been doing the exact same thing ever since my youngest was just a baby. Walk around the plaza with sausages, maybe a little mulled wine, then go by macys windows, do some shopping and then many times would go warm up at the Berghoff with a kalte platte and some beers. Metra there and back.

They never make it, they have favorite Polish deli's where they buy it. HHM mentioned Westerns Ave also places on Milwaukee Ave I can ask them for recommendations if you want.

You should have a sausage making saturday with the fam.

I usually do a couple/year. It's messy but fun and if you make 20 + lbs of it it's completely worth while.

Yeah if you think of it , please do . I'm down there every now and then. To me you can never have enough garlic.
Are you're inlaws the ones that live north of Eau Claire?

When I first moved into Uke village I walked into one of those Polish groceries and went right up to the deli counter and asked them for Kielbasa.

The big armed lady behind the counter looked at me and then looked back at the wall and back to me and says "what kind?"

There were about 50 different kinds of sausage hanging in ropes up and down that wall.

100%. It's kind of an expensive cab ride and way too crowded but a few years ago Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier was great for a 7 year olds and up. Although I think it got expensive recently. They just recently moved the tree to Millennium Park, trying to spread out the crowd. On a Friday or Saturday night, Daley Plaza is insane, good luck finding a table inside. We have found ourselves sitting at a picnic table outside trying to eat in the pouring rain, not ideal.

Chicago in the winter is fucking beautiful. We would take the train from Crystal Lake. Check out all the window displays, eat , drink , take the carriage rides. I love Chicago around Christmas time .

Made some chicken enchiladas topped with a chorizo cream sauce. This one:

https://youtu.be/bgipWzycmF0

Pretty damn good.

It looks delicious, but you usually go with healthier meals. Between the heavy whipping cream and not draining the chorizo, that is not healthy, amazing, but not healthy. I'm guessing you probably drained the chorizo (so to speak), not judging if you didn't.

Sorry if I just ruined your cheat day.

Nah. You didn't ruin it :) I'm a firm believer in moderation with all things. I generally eat pretty healthy, but like once every 1-2 weeks I eat literally whatever the hell I want. Tonight was one of those nights.

Back to lean meat/fish, lots of vegetables, whole grains and olive oil tomorrow. Totally worth it though, that shit was good.
