FTR cheesecake factory has kinda failed for me for the last time. Every time I get something there I'm not satisfied with it. Everything other than the bread and the cheesecake hasn't been great.

I think we've gone there four times, twice with gift cards (so required attendance), and twice cause we thought it might be good.

I'm really done with factory food.....

Honestly, the best food for me when I eat out seems to come from small bars and breweries. And they usually have a good atmosphere without breaking the bank, as long as you keep the alcoholic drinks limited.

Gotta stick to local places. They care about their product and customers (typically). National chains only care about bottom line numbers.

Id always use the gift card tho no matter how shitty the place is. Or re-gift it ?

Denny's, had a French Toast Slam. Yeah, Denny's has it's place, but what was real interesting is I watched a guy eat a shitty Veggie Omelette and proceeded to get pants by the waiter.

I puked. It was troubling to watch that poor feeble man get rough housed by that waiter.

Not currently eating, but figured I would share some of the Chinese New Year meals we had before that stupid fucking Wuhan virus ruined China:

4682
* Braised Beef Shank, Tofu Skins, Cabbage

4683
* Jiaozi filled with pork and Jiucai.

4684
* From left to right - Pork and Daikkon soup, Bok Choy, Weird pickled stuff, Mashed Cucumber, and Liquor cooked duck

Was supposed to be living off this MiL cooking for 2 full weeks, but then Wuhan had to try and eat still breathing snake dicks and got jungle flu, so I left 10 days early.

Smoked pork tenderloins for the family this evening. They are quick to get to 140-145 IT and they are delicious. Nice side of mashed potatoes and broccoli, everyone is happy.

Feeling kinda lazy tonight, so I ordered some Puerto Rican shit for delivery. Been a long week. Chicken, pork, mofongo, rice, beans, plantains and some flan. Place is legit. God bless DoorDash on nights like this.

Having the first beer of the night. Some local IPA, very good start. Will switch to lighter stuff later once I get warmed up. It's chilly in flag tonight.

Nice. Yelp is clutch in new cities. I typically ask locals, but when that fails, Yelp is my go too. Always look for restaurants with 2,000 plus reviews.

We stopped at a local bar and asked a couple of folks about places. We know where breakfast is tomorrow (some place with awesome Benedict's) and dinner is tonight.

Having a couple of beers (2 different IPA and a lager, all local stuff) before walking to dinner. The downtown here is tiny. We are literally sitting in a bar 250 feet away from where were having dinner next and after all this is done it's a half block walk to the hotel which has two bars open until two... Should be a good first night of vacay.

Small town livin'! It isn't all that bad. I'd live in Flagstaff in heartbeat. I love that area, so much to do outdoors.

One perk to living in FL I bet...easy access to PR food. Stuff is fire. Pretty sure there's no such place in Chicagoland. At least none that I'm aware of

There's a HUGE PR community right down the street from Ukrainian Village

Solid place in Downers Grove, Caribbean Corner that is local for us. It isn't specifically PR food, but they have some really good food there. If you're ever around the west suburbs, I'd give it a shot. They do offer a jibarito that I think is very good. It's my go to.

For sure. Puerto Rican food is amazing. We have a HUGE Puerto Rican population in FL, especially central FL. Looks like @HeHateMe got you pointed in the right direction in the Chicago area I had no idea either.

Sorta related, I'm trying to get better at Latin American cooking. Right now my focus is on Mexican. I found this older lady's YouTube channel and am fascinated by it:

The only problem is it's all in Spanish and I don't speak it - although you can kind of follow along, and some of the videos are subtitled (but only a fraction). I hope she keeps getting whoever is doing it, to keep adding them. There are a few recipes I'd really like to have more detail on vs trying to figure out what she's doing by watching.
