I’ve had uncharted 4 sitting on a shelf I played for a few months now. I’m going to have to give it a try one of these weekends. I did play uncharted 3 a few years ago. If you have played 3 before how would you compare the two?

Uncharted 4 isn't any major departure from the rest of the series. It's pretty much the same gameplay loops, although stealth is a bit more feasible if you are into that.

However, the visuals and animations are fucking insane. They raised the bar for sure. I am only like 6 chapters in, but there is a bit more emphasis on story delivered through cutscene. Especially at the beginning. More cutscenes that are longer. The acting and animations are good enough that it didn't get annoying to me. There a bit more mini-game QTE type things too. The melee combat is a little worse imo. The parts where you have to fight hand to hand are kinda awkward now. But overall, if you have played Uncharted before, you know what you are getting.

I would say tho, that this game is clearly a love letter to the series from the devs. They pulled out all the stops for the last game of the series and are very indulgent with the visuals and cutscenes. For me, that is fantastic, for others, it might be annoying.

Is it as good as Uncharted 2, easily one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played?

Picked up Doom for $15. I've tried both my gamepad and mouse, and even though the mouse is superior in just about every way, the gamepad just feels better. There's something weird about firing the super shotgun and only feeling the tinny click of a mouse as feedback, almost like my arm's asleep. It's strange because I grew up playing shooters on the mouse & keyboard, but now it's just totally immersion-breaking for me without a trigger and rumble.

I have taken to really immersing myself in the role of a General commanding Union forces in the Civil War.

I often drink lots of whiskey while in command and yell obscenities at my fleeing troops while cursing God (the game engine) for somehow allowing the Confederates to always have me outnumbered 3:1 or 4:1...

I don't recall numbers being an advantage of the South.... or money to quickly equip 20,000 new troops when I can only equip 3-4k.

According to what I've read the game sizes your opposing army brigades based on the size of yours.

Idk how it does it... like the max size brigade you have of each type or the average size...

In any case it gets irritating when you have a really good victory and destroy/capture many of the enemy brigades and it does not impact their size/strength/equipment in the next engagement.... or at least it doesn't seem to.

Also melee... the AI fucking LOVES melee.... as if bayonet charges by 3,000 men brigades were happening 50 times per battle with little consequence.

FYI the AI apparently suffers little or no stamina penalty from running or charging.... which is why they are always on your heels fast af even after running across half the map and charging across rivers 20 times while your men are at 20% stamina from just standing in a tree line firing their weapons.

A trick I've learned to employ is the fallback command.... if they charge your infantry, check their reload.... let them pump one volley into the charging ranks if they can.... if not, wait and hit the fallback command and your unit (SHOULD) fallback away from the charge (sometimes the command is Special person and they go left or right or forward into the charging brigade.... and let them fallback and create a gap.... sometimes this leads the charging brigade to halt and shoot, if so just click on them ordering your infantry to fire on them and your brigade will halt its fallback.... if they continue charging try to get any gap you can and wait for the reloading to complete, then order your brigade to fire into them at point blank and take their charge.... if possible get another unit nearby ready to fire into the enemy unit once melee is engaged.... idk why but when in melee any unit in range can fire at the enemy and they only hit the enemy in the melee engagement...... units behind yours firing into the melee help rout the enemy.... use the fallback command if your unit gets dragged along in their retreat.... try to get one more volley of point blank into them.

Rest of that sentence is also lulzy

They are so dense, soldiers used to use them as small plates. And, of course, the flavor is incredibly uninteresting – you’re basically just eating flour. And that, of course, is the point of making them

Basically, the MRE wheat snack bread.
I was going to say. Reminds me of an MRE cracker, but at least you could salvage that with peanut butter or cheese sauce.

Last night battle of Gaines Mill.... my 1st Corps got fucking rekt.

I managed to hold on to get the victory conditions, but half of my 1st Corps units were wiped out... I didn't realize but if they break fully and rout off the map the unit is gone completely including their officer and you have to reform it from scratch.

I learned a costly lesson in trusting the map's static defenses.... better to use the woods across the river and hold them back as long as possible.... pulling your entire army back to the static defenses is a virtual guarantee of a slaughter.

was going to pick up civ 6 finally but i like civ 5. tried another 4x.....got endless legends instead. used the first 7-8 hours in me first game as a long ass tutorial and i still need to learn shit... shit be going to force me to read thangs......combat isnt the best but im okay with it.. AI is too easy, so maybe i need to turn up the difficulty. worth the 7.49 sales price if you like da 4x

i do really like being able to make my own troops.. well you modify one and spawn a child with different armor/weapons and shit. not an actual child but like OOP....nvm... me and these time sapping games.. i see this one getting many hours over its lifetime..

but after 7-8 hours and half way to an expansion victory.. i think imma start ova and expand slower.. perhaps go fer a different victory condition.. i didnt build correctly for an expansion path imo.. or maybe i did... id just have to hit a lull in the mid late game to catch up with certain thangs......but i didnt know what i was doing..

Playing murdered: soul suspect. Really enjoying it so far, plus I know it's a short game I could get through fairly quickly. I love the whole ghost detective angle. Only issue to me so far is they are forcing demons on you. I mean, there were demons and demon pits in a church for crying out loud. Also, I can't walk into any building unless a door or window is open because basically everything in Salem is consecrated, but there are demons in there.

that 8 hours was total game time played.. dunno how long that expansion game actually was.. i think i left it running 3-4 hours on accident while i went to the shops..

I tried that Gaines Mill battle again last night.... I spent the first half with all my units advanced to where I had them pinned in the corner of the map.

They had me outnumbered like 30k to 12k..... then they got reinforcements and it became 45k to 9k.... then I got reinforcement of 1 unit of cannons which took like 10 hours to get to the fighting.... then they get more reinforcements that come in from multiple spots on the map and it was like 60-70k to 7.5k.... I began pulling back figuring by the time they caught up and tried storming the victory points in the middle of the map I would win it.... my 2nd Corps shows up towards the end with just 2 of 3 divisions so it becomes 60-70k to 10k.... and just like the last time they managed to "contest" one of the 3 victory points about 5 mins before the end and it starts a 30 min timer of the point being contested before they take it... but while it is contested the mission will not end so it extends the mission another 30 mins (mission mins)... and my 1st Corps once again was obliterated.

I am missing a key here... they have brigades of 3k-4k infantry where I can only afford to equip brigades of like 1000-1500.

They bring like double the amount of brigades to a fight and each of their units outnumber me 3 or 4 to 1.

It doesn't make alot of sense no matter how they would rationalize it.
