I was looking for what to play next in my PS5 library when I cam across Doki Doki Literature Club.
Some sort of anime highschool waifu dating sim. No interest in playing that. Then I looked at the descriptors "Psychological Horror"
Oh I gotta play this.
Found out this game has a cult following. Honestly it's kinda mid. Love the concept but the execution is just.. boring.
The idea of this game is amazing. I love the concepts laid out in the spoiler section. But in the end it was just boring ... and not really horror. There are like 3 different endings you can get by your choices but I have no desire to sit through that 2 more times. If each play through was like an 1:30 maybe.

The first hour or so of the game is standard dating sim (I assume). You join the high school literature club which only has 4 girl members. You can try and woo 3 of the girls by writing them poems that reflect their interests. This part is really boring. You read slowly produced text backed by still images. Yes there are a few hints that something is off but I almost quit the game here.
At the end of this section, your childhood friend kills herself. The game glitches out at this point a box pops up saying her file is deleted and all you can do is start again. This time that character is completely gone and no one seems to even remember her ever existing. Now there are only two characters you can write poems before. It's clear the game is messed up. There are graphical errors and a bunch of text replaced with gibberish or stuff in another font. At the end of this part another one of the girls stabs herself to death in front of you. You then have to set through a like 25 minute long scene of her body in front of you with random gibberish scrolling across the screen.

In my continued quest to go through my backlog of games, I've made it to GhostWire Tokyo on playstation
Story:
You play as some guy whose name I can't remember who is racing his motorcycle trying to see his sister before she dies. You have a horrible crash on the way and are almost dead when this spirit of a paranormal inspector named KK, who has been separated from his body tries to posses you so he can survive.... but you aren't dead so you get his powers but he can't control you unless you let him.. .And then this fog comes in and makes everybody dissapear and this crazy dude in a mask starts broadcasting on all the video screen to all the people who aren't there anymore because of the fog, but the masked guy summons in these monstors called visitors.. to um... well everybody i s gone so um.. they are for you to fight I guess. So you h ave to use magic from KK to defeat the visitors and collect the souls of the people the fog took away. But also the masked guy has taken your sister cause he needs her to open a portal between the spirit world and natural world so he can be with his dead wife... but he already knows there is an afterlife so he could just go be with his dead wife, but he needs the souls of the people taken by the fog but also your sister.. for some reason that's never explained and um.. you go through tokyo and defeat the bad guys and save peoples' souls then you have to go into the abyss. When you get to the abyss you then go into your own memories about how you never properly grieved the death of your parent and that led to your sister to kill herself.. so she's dead or not I guesss.. then the masked dude breaks the barrier between worlds, but doesn't cause your sister who is dead but not totally dead and has some rings or something and stops the masked man and he falls in a pit but you are already in the abyss.. But then he climbs out and you have a boss fight... your parents come to take your sister to the afterlife and you vow to live a full life..
Japanese people are messed up . The funny thing is when I was playing the game I didn't realize how absurd the story is. There is a bunch of stuff from modern Japanese urban legends mixed in with traditional spiritual stuff. It's actually a cool atmosphere in the game. The shops are run by cute magical cats. Despite my comical take above, it's a very interesting world
Gameplay:
It's in first person and you shoot magic at the enemies. If you play a lot of Fpses like I do you'll initially find the aiming and movement awkwerd. There are online guides to make the movement and aiming better but I didn't use them. After a couple of hours of gameplay the controls just became part of the game and I enjoyed it. Once you unlock some of the more power traversing the city become really fun. You can grapple and glide around the tall buildings.
The most fun I had wasn't doing the main story it was when I decided to platinum the game and had to do a bunch of collecting stuff. Zipping around trying to find everything was entertaining.
Summary:
Stupid story really fun gameplay once you get a bit into it.

I got ps+ premium over the holiday. Despite having a big backlog I’m starting to mess with the classics collection. Played sly cooper first. Going to see if god of war ascension is playable at all

5090 and 5080 drop Jan 30. 5070 TI and 5070 in Feb.
I read the fine print. Def Dlss 4 smoke and mirrors and in use cases in saying 5070 will get 4090 performance. However, 5xxx will still be an upgrade from 4xxx series.
Im still on a 3070 and been waiting for some P2P to make sense and more Vramz. If the 4070 TI Super comes down, i might do that eventually.
Will see what these new AMD cards prices and performance will be first though. OR just run the 3070 into the ground for awhile longer. If it only had 16gb ram id be happy enough

I've been building gaming PCs for over 20 years now and never understood people being obsessed with the latest GPU releases.
I will go latest and greatest on a brand new build but I don't upgrade each cycle because there's very marginal gains.
Cyberpunk 2077 on a RTX 3080 looks close enough to real life lol.
When do they start projecting life-like holograms I wonder?

If i just wanted to keep playing @ 3440x1440p and lower some detail the 3070 would suffice going forward for another 2-3 years. Would just lower settings and go custom more often. However its 8gb is limiting, especially when i go 4k.
it can game at ultra 1440p and some 4k now, but wont be able to with newer games at higher FPS i want. My 1440p monitor is 144 hz, would like to be able to push the monitor more without having to reduce quality all the time. BUT im also relying on dlss more and more with newer titles. 4k monitor is only 60hz so dont care there as much, 48-60 fps on 4k for those single player games is fine.
BUT have seen a budget 5k2k monitor floating around and could move to that too. would need moar powerz
Frame gen only officially announced for 4xxx and 5xxx. 2 and 3xxxx havent been fully ruled out from getting it, but im not banking on it.
4xxx nvidia series and 7xxx amd didnt entice me, but the newest gen might. Really just looking for slightly better raster and RT performance and a min of 16gb ram. Def want to be able to turn shit up for GTA 6 and get a really smooth play when that comes out.
Also newer games requiring Ray tracing.. like avatar and indiana Jones? idk havent played those.. that may be the norm going forward. so want a lil more RT powerz too
Even buying a used 3090/ti is an option for me coming from a 3070.
a 4070S or 7900gre would be an upgrade and at the threshold i game at. However 4070s only 12gb ram.
On avg i like to get 3-5 yrs out of my main gpu before moving it to upgrade other pc gpus in my house. Will buy used to mess with here and there though. Coming up to year 4? i think with 3070.

Already reported that there90s stock are slim. more 80s for sure.. Always GL finding an FE model. i think they make like 5. the 70 series will come late feb probably plenty depending on their p2p.. which may be minimal raster but higher RT, DLSS gains
read something that 4xxx is getting bumps too with dlss 4 and fg. may be the better value play if they get discounted or in a used deal.
AMD wont be out with the 9070/XT until late march so probably will wait around and see what they are about. if its 7900xt raster performance with better RT, maybe. Or i just fall into a deal with current gen beforehand. Came across a cheap used 4070 ti but passed cause of 12gb ram. Considering its price though, probably should have grabbed it

I’m fine rolling with a 70. I’m not paying for an 80 or higher. I’m still using a 3070 which works just fine on everything.
I’ll never touch a XT again.

i havent had an amd card since 580s, never had issues with AMD before but i hear more and more ppl complain about driver issues from time to time. whats your experience with the latest XT thats making you say f that?
yeah 3070 works fine. if it had 16 gb id be okay with it for a few more years. for older games its great.

speaking on cheap gpus, just bought a 3060 ti 8gb for 95 USD my money in honga congo prices. On ebay they sell for twice as much all day, at times more expensive even for the 8gb model.
Craziest deal ive seen so far, its not for my puter but kiddos. Essentially a free upgrade if i sell the 2060 out of that. Will actually profit a few dollars if i do that. now unless i wanna upgrade the 1070 rig with my 3070, can sell it now instead of upgrading a puter in house.
3060 ti works fine, typing on it now after stressing it.

keep them eyes out for ppl upgrading, especially marketplace. seeing some good deals out there at least in my area

The 5700 was just a nightmare for me and I tried every trick I could find online to get it to work without constant crashing and I just couldn’t. Maybe someone more in tune with this stuff could have made it work but for me it got to the point where I bought a premade for the 3070 and gave away the rest of the rig.
