I'm all for Maholm...maybe try and sign Edwin too.

Z, Garza, Demp, Jackson and Maholm wouldn't be bad. Like everybody has said, Wilson is not leaving Tex.

Why? What has he shown at all to warrant that?

i think giving him some more ABs will help him in regards to plate discipline...

he's not a bad player going forward..and has some years ahead of him..he's not a bad defender

he's not really a high ceiling guy, though, on the contrary..its not like he's 20

and frankly, i dont think he'll ever be anywhere even a good player..but i think he can be a contributing hand going forward if we give him confidence and let him learn on the plate...hard for him to get better if he doesnt too many ABs

Who said Wilson isn't leaving Texas? The guy has no ties to the area, and they waited til the last second before the start of the season to even bring up a contract extension. I just don't see him not testing the market when this is his chance for his biggest payday (and possibly only one at age 31).

Tex can't lose a starter as that's their weakest position. They'll overpay him and he'll accept the contract before he hits FA.

The fact he's 25 and has more of a ceiling than Byrd or Soriano. Cheaper than those 2 as well.

frankly, colvin's ceiling is not that high(you stated the fact that he's 25 as a positive..but it also means he's more developed physically and is closer to his peak than say a 22 year old)...if he gets more ABs and masters plate discipline..he could be a solid hitter and maybe a 3rd or 4th OF..

but i think he'll be just an average player...but that doesnt mean i dont think he should get some more ABs...

His limited ceiling is still higher than Byrd's and Soriano's combined.

He plays with heart and does the 5 tools average at best.

Solid role player on a good team.

All-star player on a team like the Cubs are now.

heart, fire and passion, grindy, cheerleading ( garza ) is way overrated. Heart doesnt=good baseball player.

Role play, an all out type of player, leadership, clubhouse guy, someone who knows how to play the game and a good guy. So yeah....

 right, because having a "clubhouse" guy is so important.

Yay, he is a good guy.

It is...def for the Cubs. He's a leader and every team needs that. The Cubs do have Pena too, but more the better. It keeps the team together.

soriano and byrd dont really have a "ceiling" anymore..atleast in regards to potential considering they are both well over 30 and declining...

does colvin have a higher ceiling "productivity" wise over soriano and byrd? hard to really say when you're comparing completely different age groups...

if i'm looking long term..i'll take colvin over those two..

the question is, what does Byrd do for ya?

he's average..but he does everything well..he was our best base hitter last year and arguably one of our best players as well...(although that speaks more of the team than of byrd)

that doesnt mean i think byrd isnt expendable...but he's a nice player to have..but not to build around certainly

i would say that not having heart, fire, and passion(i mean like being lazy) does hurt a player..but emotion itself is not a significant advantage as much as the actual player ability

and garza is a good pitcher
