You must not read the game threads where I am constantly bemoaning Quade's lineups with Barney hitting 2nd. If he is buried at 7th or 8th, then I don't think he is a problem.

Jackson has every indication of being a real good player for us, but I don't mind finding out more about Colvin now when it doesn't mean anything. This is also why I wouldn't be in a rush to trade Byrd because I think the best realistic lineup next year will involve Byrd in RF and Jackson in CF.

I've been pretty absent in general from CCS for a while but I don't understand everyone's hard on for Barney. He's about as mediocre as it gets.

Ideally you'd like Barney near the bottom of the order, but I don't think it's a problem he's hitting 2nd.

It is a problem. Why give one of your worst offensive producers the 2nd most ABs on the team?

Ideally they find a taker for Soriano and either get a little salary relief and a prospect. However, that options seems very unlikely. I guess I don't see how this OF Colvin/Soriano, Jackson, Byrd isn't better than Campana, Jackson, Colvin that most people seem to want.

Do people also like Campana too much? Cuz he's really not that great either other than a PR.

I would say that the majority that have posted here view Campana correctly as a fifth OF, but it seems like there is a vocal section of the fanbase that wants that particular OF next season. There are quite a few people who think based on talent and skills that each player possesses now that Campana is better than Soriano.

Neither have been deserving of the words "better than"

Just because both options suck doesn't mean one option isn't better than other...

Bingo

That's what the Cubs need to be looking at, 2013 and beyond, not even 2012.

Does that mean the Cubs shouldn't pursue Fielder?

No, it means that the Cubs should go on a free agent bonanza like they did in 07 because that plan didn't work then, and won't work now.

It didn't work? Funny, I could have swore we made the playoffs. Twice.

Yeah, a .316 OBP out of the 2 spot is a real plus!

:office:

he's not extremely young with a high ceiling(he's 25..i dont expect his peak to be much better) he's not a productive hitter overall and his discipline sucks

Yeah and we played like total dogshit in the playoffs..

Sorry CO it didn't work. Now we're paying for it.

It got us to the playoffs. That's the goal. I don't see how it did not work. Sure, we didn't win the World Series, but you're basing that it didn't work off of 6 games. Sample size. The goal is just to get to the playoffs. We did that. Twice.
