David Kaplan says Cubs trying to maybe trade Heyward for “bad” contracts that fill holes (I.e Mark Melancon).

Wouldn't surprise me that they look into it. He has a full no trade though and those opt outs are sticky in terms of trade.

SF would be a good landing spot for him with the deep right center alley to cover. I imagine they'd get much more defensive value out of him there than the Cubs do at Wrigley.

So, we are trading Baez for the 4th off season.

Speaking of which, gold glove finalist were announced by Rawlings. Zobrist is top 3 and Baez is no where to be seen. Award is a joke.

It's been said (Andre Dawson) right field in Wrigley is one of the toughest in baseball. Is it?

Actually, he said that about day games at Wrigley.

The winds and sun can make it difficult, not the amount of ground to cover.

Yeah Baez makes spectacular plays, but he has a lot of Castro in him and is very inconsistent. He isn't GG worthy yet. Like his bat it needs to settle down.

Could make sense for Shark and Melancon

Shark's contract isn't bad though, particularly for SF. He's actually outearned it so far. Using $8 mil/WAR as a guide he's produced over 50% of it's worth in 2 years. For SF all he has to to is put up 4.7 WAR over the next three years which he is sure to outpace. That's about 1.6 WAR/year for the remaining term and he's never put up less than 2.5 in a season as a starter. Conversely if he were traded to another team it would effectively be a 3 year 59.4 mil contract where he would have to put up that consistent 2.5 WAR per season or 7.5 WAR total just to earn it. Now he probably will but there is no room for error and there certainly isn't any surplus value.

That what i was saying...

I just think their gonna move on from him and take what they can get..

Yes he a very good glove but he a huge hole in the lineup..
Hurts even more in NL when with the pitcher you got basically 2 automatic outs in bottom of order..
You can hide him better in AL

Kinda sad a big 6'6 250 pound guy cant drive the ball and is basically a 10 HR power guy who hits below 250

Heyward would have to wave his no trade. So I’m having issues with it based off that

I get that..
Doesnt mean they wont still try

Im sure if it something they really would like to do, theyll talk to Heyward if they havent already, and see if they can work something out as far as teams preference, etc...

He had 322 PAs at AAA last year and hit .265/.324/.404. Not sure he needs any more time there. I suppose you could argue that while he may not need time down there the cubs may have better options. But my view on this is if Jay walks you don't have another CF on the roster and Zagunis can't play CF. I suppose you could argue Happ still plays in CF but presumably one of Schwarber(doubtful in my eyes)/Happ/Baez are getting dealt. If we assume it's either Happ/Baez, that opens time at 2B for Zobrist and the other not dealt. I think what you're going to see is what they did this year with Almora. If you get an early lead you take out Schwarber in the 6th/7th via a double switch. If you're doing that, Hannemann is the type of glove you want out there.

That's my take on it anyways. Plus, I think if the cubs do make any kind of trade Zagunis is a guy that would interest other teams given he's basically MLB ready. Happ/Baez + him are two guys you can actually carry and play on your 25 man roster. That's a fairly solid start to a trade package when the cubs don't have a lot of guys to offer up.

Hannemann has tools but he's a solid AAA OF. He can't get on base even in the lower levels at a fairly advanced age and he is a fairly aggressive pull hitter even though he doesn't possess a ton of power to need to pull. I agree with whoever said he's the future Leonys Martin where you put him in CF (or maybe LF and have him pinch run) but he's not here for his bat or ability to be a 9 inning OF and he's likely a luxury on a 25 man roster you can't really afford but makes sense in September when they expand to 40.

Zaguins on the other hand has crazy OBP numbers at all levels of the minors and as a right handed hitter, could provide a decent platoon option in LF with Schwarber. He also has value as an emergency catcher as well as the fact he had more BB than K against lefties last year.
