How am I mis using UZR then, Dewey? It's not a one year sample, it's a damn 5 year sample. So please, tell me how I have misused it.

UZR is one of the most unreliable sabre stats in baseball with about 9000 holes. i think you should research it more instead of finding a positive uzr and copying and pasting stats from fangraphs.

damn that sucks. today i finally stopped puking and my fever is gone after a 24 hour bug, so i know how ya feel not being able to concentrate, hence why i didnt post last nite.

Ya, I've been sick for a while too, not puking, but a horrible cough all week. It annoyed the hell out of everyone at school. :smug:

But now I have Winter Break, so I'm happy.

Glad you stopped pukin' Dews. I used to do that everytime I'd go somewhere with the Yout Group at Church. :shifty:

It's unreliable in small sample sizes. 5 years is not a small sample size. At all.

I have researched it, Dewey. So please tell me what I have done wrong. You can look at his other stats. This year he got to more balls in his zone than any other LFer in baseball.

If UZR is sooooooo bad, then what should I use, Dewey? Hmm? What are you basing him being sooooooo bad off of anyway?

First Base: #4; Cards, Reds, Brewers, Cubs, Houston, Pirates
Second Base: #4; Reds, Pirates, Brewers, Cubs, Cards, Houston
Shortstop: #1; Cubs, Brewers, Pirates, Reds, Houston, Cubs (Ugh Theriot, lol)
Third Base: #1; Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Pirates, Cards, Houston
Left Field: #4 Brewers, Cards, Houston (Lee, going to play 1st, though), Cubs, Pirates, Reds
Center Field: #3 Houston, Pirates, Cubs, Cards, Reds, Brewers
Right Field: #5 Houston, Reds, Brewers, Pirates, Cubs, Cards
Catcher: #2 Cards, Cubs, Pirates, Reds, Brewers, Astros
Starting Rotation: #4 Cards, Reds, Brewers, Cubs, Astros, Pirates
Closer: #1 Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Cards, Pirates, Astros
Set-Up: #1 Cubs, Reds, Cards, Astros, Pirates, Brewers
Long Relief: #3 Reds, Cards, Cubs, Astros, Brewers, Pirates
Middle Relief: #3 Reds, Cards, Cubs, Astros, Brewers, Pirates
Bench: #4 Reds, Cards, Astros, Cubs, Brewers, Pirates
Farm System: #2 Pirates (they have to right? Probably no though), Cubs, Astros, Reds, Brewers, Cards

This is all based on last year because....Carlos Lee is expected to play 1B with Brett Wallace possibly going to LF. Also, Berkman wil play LF, with Holliday moving to RF for the 2011 season.

This was not easy as baseball has not been on for a while and I can't remember as much. This is all off my head. Thanks.

Berkman/Lee over Soriano? (LF)
Colvin over Holliday? (RF)

Did you miss Holliday moving to right?

EDIT: nvm, saw the end of your post now.

Lee and Soriano are the same player in my opinion, and you can switch Sori and Lee in that category. But it doesn't matter. Also, why is 2B bolded?

Ok, I THINK I have a decent handle on UZR although it is very complicated. If you shouldnt use UZR what can we go by? What would be a better statistic than UZR? I don't know of one and I'm curious.

you have to go in depth and evaluate the defensive player(s) position by a combo of stats, Fangraphs has a ton of specific stats as well as standard stats to come to a conclusion, to use UZR based soley on a supposed "zone" by itself to judge defense is insane.

Also add that you have to understand UZR and all sabre metrics and how to combine all stats to evaluate players, not like CO where he cherry picks specific pos stats on his favorite cub players to make his point.

Ask Lefty for specific info on UZR since he is got sabre stats on lock down and knows how to use sabre and evaluations the correct way, as he has shown in every single arguement with CO.

I evaluate a little bit different than lefty but usually come to the same conclusion on a player.

Well, yeah... I don't solely use UZR but I think its a very good stat in larger samples.

I wish could go back 3 years ago to just believing BA RBI FLD% and W-L were good gauges.... It was so delightfully ignorant.

Funny how many 'experts' use worthless stats in analasis and broadcasting.

At least Len Kasper uses OPS which isn't perfect but its damn sure better than BA and most other traditional stats.

Anyway, so dewey are you saying you put zero stock in UZR?
