supposed "zone" is the correct way to look at that.
As opposed to nothing?
supposed "zone" is the correct way to look at that.
I'm somewhat with CO on this... The eye test remembers the horribly ugly plays and forgets the plays that were made IMO
I remember the supposed great plays since I watch too much baseball, and those great plays that I recall, werent great, they looked great because he took horrible routes to the ball.
How many times has that happened, then TBO?
Sabre is unreliable. In small sample sizes. The smallest sample size I used was 3 fucking years.
DG (defensive games): The number of outs made by an average fielder at his position given the exact distribution of balls in play for that player divided by the number of outs an average player at that position makes per game.

Sabre is always unreliable.
Take for example, UZR.
It takes into advantage what park you play in....so you can't always tell which ones are good or not because their numbers are scewed on where they play the most.
Who comes up with these park rankings? What do they base them off? It's OPINION, not fact.
Also, UZR according to fangraphs uses this:
It uses averages which, much like FIP can be influenced by guys with high or low numbers.
I never said anything about great plays.... I just said plays made....
All I'm saying is it is easier to remember sori's botched plays.
Ummm... the fact that it takes into account what park you play in, makes it even for all players.
Okay, so it uses an average. Why is that so bad? It uses an average and Soriano is above that... yet he sucks. That makes a fuckload of sense.
I agree with bold.
and my great plays comment was not directed at you personally. you know i love you.
you didnt answer my question...
Who comes up with these park rankings? How do they come up with them?
Averages are skewed by people with high or low numbers.
If an OF has twice as many outs as Soriano, the average will be higher, thus skewing soriano's stats
Once again another thread goes off topic. a simple thread about positions goes into a "defend-a-cub"
No, no it's not.
That guy uses so many things that are affected by people OTHER THAN THE ACTUAL PERSON WE ARE DISCUSSING.
I'd rather watch Soriano play and see what he does rather than get a number based off what mph the wind was and how many hotdogs were sold in his "zone" of the park or whatever random stuff he uses
cubies r da bezt teamz.
stfu an getzz outz if uz dot tink so
That's fine, you can do that. However, to completely refute saber metrics is frivolous. It's not 1960, we're advancing in the world. Soriano is a good LFer, if you want to close your eyes and say nanananananananaana and pretend it isn't true, you can. Be my guest.
