oops..I almost forgot the vandalism problem thats growing in Asheville...

http://www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2014/03/03/how-will-asheville-handle-graffiti-vandalism/5992381/

ASHEVILLE –

It's not just buildings and fences in the West Asheville neighborhood where Catherine Campbell lives.

Even some trees get tagged by vandals using spray paint to leave their signature.

"The tagging has exponentially increased over the last eight weeks," Campbell said.

Asheville records show she's right — about tagging and graffiti in general, problems the city has acknowledged and is working to address.

By the numbers

7,140: Number of cases last fiscal year in which Asheville city crews covered or removed graffitti.

7,097: Number of cases during the first eight months of this fiscal year in which Asheville city crews covered or removed graffitti.

$31,530: Cost of graffiti removal so far this fiscal year.

Graffiti arrests

2011: 19 arrests.

2012: 28 arrests.

2013: 24 arrests

2014: 2 arrests through Feb. 26.

Source: Asheville Police Department.

83,000 residents

7000 graffitti incidents in 8 months

I'm a fan of graffiti (murals, not tagging), but Austin has a serious problem. $500,000 was spent last year on graffiti cleanup.

Asheville is a beautiful city that has a lot of upside for young professionals.
The music and food scene are great too but unfortunately the city has a rapidly increasing drug/crime problem.
It's not far from 85 and the drug transportation hub of Atlanta, so it has seen a recent boom of drug trafficking from the panhandle and south Florida from the cartels.
It's caught the attention of the State and federal congress.

I was in Seattle for a summer weekend before. Nice place, but what I remember was that the sun was still out at around 9:30pm, which was kinda cool. Anyone been to the San Juan islands up there? Been thinking of taking my woman for a weekend getaway there.

I lived in Anacortes for about 6 months, nice, but a pain in the ass to get anywhere. Ended up living near Mt Vernon, great area. Love it up there, but commute would be insane.

I just don't get why attention whores who are artsy have to be so goddamn open and, I don't know, attention whor-ish. I come from a family of artists and everyone has their own expression and frame of mind, but they don't have to dress like a dickhead to express it. THATS why I hate hipsters and dumb **** wanna be hippies. So I'm sure I'd hate asheville lol.

I have unfortunatley heard that Austin has been overtaken by hipsters, which is such a shame considering normal clean cut bros like myself dig Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt and Ryan Bingham all the same but don't have to express it the way hipster toads do-- which is to annoy the hell out of general public to say "Look at me! I'm different! Look at me!"

Ugh. What a shame

I'm thinking about a move. I'm not considering all of these cities and threw a few in just for fun. I hate the cold. I'm single with no kids. My professional background is tech and finance-related.

a. Portland
b. Nashville
c. Boulder
d. Denver
e. San Francisco/Bay Area
f. Chicago
g. Asheville
h. Los Angeles
i. Seattle
j. New Orleans
k. other

Surprised San Diego isn't on your list. That's my future destination. That place is perfect.

A personal crusade to spread the word on the evils of Asheville. I don't think they would like you anymore than you would like them.

OCD, right wing, delusional, crusaders would be the weird ones down there. It's probably best for everyone for you to stay away.

lol...a mutt from Canadia commenting on a city thats probably 5000 miles away that he has never been to...Brilliant!

Apparently you missed 2012.

We had no winter that year either, folks riding motorcycles in Jan. followed by 80's in March.

Unfortunately, the odds of a repeat are not good. In the past 20 years, only 3 summers have stood out as unusually warm...1988, 1994, and 2012.

You're way too concerned with other people's personal choices. It shouldn't bother you this much.

I've been here for about 15 yrs...so true. I would take the longer stretch of heat and humidity though for our winters. Typical day is 65-70 and not a cloud in the sky. Re Orlando traffic, depends on what part of town really. I don't have to **** around with downtown and the attractions...only on I4 for like 5 mins on my commute. As far as beaches go, I can get to NSB in about 30.

Chicagoans could never handle this for any length of time, to my amusement people would be complaining within 2 weeks...having all but forgotten the brutal winter.

It took me a year to get used to Florida summers, and even then cold showers were mandatory after bike rides just to get core temp down.

It was 1995. 2010 was fairly warm too. In all unusually warm is the key word there. UNUSUAL. Its not usual to have 90+ degree days all the time.

1955 is the hottest summer ever with a 76.4 average
1995 follows closely at 76.3
2012 at 76.1
2010 ranks 9th all-time at 75.2

1988 is 11th at 75.1

When it comes to Illinois, I'd take a mild summer with cloud and 75 degrees every year if it meant a mild winter too. Long nights partying by the pool happen less as I get older, but driving to work in the early morning doesn't.

And your point is...I should research meteorological stats?.

Or can we discuss how poorly planned and landlocked DuPage Co. is?...a traffic nightmare going west until you hit Rte.59.

You stated that summer in Chicago isn't hot anymore. I gave you data that states otherwise. Minus this year and last year and a few years mixed it, we've had pretty warm summers over the last decade.
