I think this trade was worth a shot for the Sox.

I don't think it's gonna work out though. Him being on a contending team and facing pressure will probably make him even more of a nut case. He reminds me of Carlos Marmol above the neck. (or is the saying above the shoulders...either way lol)

Not being a hater though..like I said, I think it's a good move to try for what you gave up.

Because the Twins have never been contenders before...

Yeah he is a free agent after the year. This year was his final arbitration year and is making 5.5 million.

Adam Dunn was never on a contending team until his half season the D-Backs and he sucked, this year he is a key component on a division leader. I don't care about the past I care about now, and now Liriano has been making hitters look foolish and with Coops help I can see him only improving, plus he and Chris Sale can pick each others brains, cuz they roughly pitch the same way.

Baseball-reference has 2013 as his third arbitration year unless I misread it, but I will trust Baseball America on this one. Still not a bad move when this team needs a guy to take innings from Sale down the stretch.

B-Ref means he will be a free agent for the 2013 season.

As Dews knows, I'm not a fan of KW at all, but I like the move. It's a bit of a risk and we now have zero infield utility players (I don't count Morel as a major league calibur player) but I think it's worth it. Cooper has to see something in Liriano that he believes he can fix... HOPEFULLY his release point. As pointed out, the guy has some nasty stuff when he is "on."

That said, we need a utility infielder to give some rest to our players. There is still a lot of games to be played and having tired guys out there for the stretch run isn't going to help. As far as Floyd getting traded now, I could see it, but I have a feeling we keep him. With Sale and Quintana already having pitched more innings this year then they ever have before and injury concerns for Peavy at any moment, I bet we roll with a 6 man rotation for awhile, to give those 3 guys an extra day off in between starts. I'd be completely in favor of doing that as it will make us a stronger team going forward for the playoff push!

GO SOX!

Yes, KW has had a tremendous bounce-back season. I've been very impressed and hopefully he keeps it up. He doesn't need to fall in love with veterans as much as he does, unless he can absolutely rape a team like he did with the Red Sox/Youk deal :)

that deal was just crazy. wish they were all like that. I just want to make the playoffs and go from there. all those analysts saying we are a 95 loss team. **** them.

**** yah, **** them. ;)

But agreed, it's all about the playoff push. I really like how we stack up against the Rangers, not so much the Yankees. Almost as important, though, is winning the division because with the new wildcard format, you only get 1 game AND you have to waste your best pitcher in that game, thus screwing up your chances in the series to follow (if you win the 1 game). If you can't tell, I really hate the new wildcard format :)

I dont fear the yanks or the rangers...i fear the rotation of the angels and some of those crazy bats in that lineup. angels are so well well rounded.

how would it?

If Cooper doesn't straighten him out and is a high 5 ERA? I don't think you guys will get hurt down the road by what you gave up, but Liriano could continue to be bad.

He could be awesome, but he has a been a 5 ERA pitcher more often than the mid 3 ERA pitcher.
