It was Crawford who quit and let in easy goals in this series. In fact, in the two games in which he played, I would say maybe two or them were legit. The others were pretty soft. How tough he or Darling are is up for grabs because to my knowledge we haven't seen either in a fight.
But as for Buff, they should have kept him. They would have won that series against the Kings with him on the ice. He was needed in front of the net and to provide real protection for the smaller guys.

Felt like common knowledge that Crawford was quite clearly drunk at that Rise Against concert. I believe there were reports from fans also in attendance that night saying the same thing.
