With the news that Williams will be back with the Sox, I believe there's a good possibility that Hahn comes to the North side.

Based off of Ricketts saying that he wants someone who has experience as a GM?

Ricketts said he'll be looking for a candidate with strong player development skills and a winning track record.
"When I look at the candidates, I kind of see a couple of criteria," Ricketts said. "I see No. 1 they'll have to share a commitment to player development, which obviously is the key to consistent success. I think we can look for guys that have a little stronger analytical background than maybe some of the guys we have here. Someone who has worked with some of the new tools, that would be a plus.

Someone who has been in a winning culture, and someone who can bring some of the lessons from that over and who has a track record of success.

Asked if he would interview current assistant general managers, Ricketts replied, "I'm not sure yet.

"There's obviously some good (ones) out there," he said. "If one of those candidates would have interest, then we would speak to him but …"

While he doesn't outright say it, it certainly seems like he is leaning toward someone with experience. Especially with the "track record of success" quote.

What Ricketts says and what Ricketts ends up doing are two different things, but I'm inclined to think that he goes after a high-profile GM candidate and not an assistant.

SPECULATION!

Fwiw,
there’s almost no chance that the cubs will have their next gm in place by the end of the month, according to jon paul morosi of fox sports. Morosi hears from one agent who expects the cubs to try to get “the biggest name they can," and goes on to discuss some of the high-profile candidates who have been linked to the job.

I am feeling that it is going to be one of the big three. I'd prefer Friedman or Epstein over Cashman, but if we get Cashman, I'll still be very very happy.

•Marlins GM Larry Beinfest has let it be known that he would like a chance at the Cubs position. Rival executives say that Beinfest is unhappy with the recent reassignment of Jim Fleming the increasing involvement of owner Jeffrey Loria. The Cubs' level of interest in Beinfest is currently unknown.

Interesting. FLA has some good young players. So he knows how to bring up from own system
