The problem with that defense for Fields is the league has dictated otherwise.

If Fields was a hot commodity the deal would already be done.

That's one way to look at it.

I could see that. But Poled did say it's important to be fair to Fields and get it done asap. If he knows the offers aren't going to get better I think it'd already be done.
He would want to do right by him, but that’s doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. Business is business at the end. If things change where that can’t be the case anymore, then oh well. It ain’t going to happen. And it seems like it won’t happen since it’s looking more like he will need to see what happens with Kirk and what not on March 11, at the earliest.

What if he isn't even a commodity? Maybe he isn't even on the trade block.
I mean there is zero insight into it as of yet.

DaBearsBlog went from Fields and Flus with a high ceiling after the season to this....

The dude covers his bases when the wind starts blowing...

Citing this is about as acurate as citing CCS as evidence...

And? Shit changes.
Depends if Poles wants to be a man of his word or not...

Would you appreciate your boss you publically promised you a raise and then went back on his word and claimed hey shit changes...

Its ok, as a fan, to roll over player who don't want on your team, but some people prefer to be men of their words...especially a GM that has to negotiate and sign players in a very small league.

He can want to do it now but if opportunity isn’t there yet what can he do
He can easily trade Fields for a lesser draft pick...

So he can either stick to his word or go back on it.

Most trades happen after the combine but before free agency. Combine is for info gathering. Last I checked it was still ongoing.
He's got another week window to say what he was going to do if he trades Fields...

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
If the league wants to see where Cousins and/or Mayfield and Wilson go first, then that would explain why Fields is still a Chicago Bear.

If you think it's because NO ONE WANTS HIM, then you're a fucking moron. And surprise, it's the same fucking morons that think this.

There's a lot of other factors that go into this, too. His 5th year option, how deep this draft is for QB, etc.

I'm not sure cutting off his own hands is the correct analogy...taking a slighly lesser draft pick to keep his word is more accurate yes....

On a side note, its interesting to see how many people have no problem going back on their word to suit their own situation....

Does anyone think it's possible that Poles has no interest in trading Fields?
I mean obviously if the return is insane which I don't think is possible. If he can't get a minimum 2nd then hopefully it's completely off the table.
