To PuckJim - I replayed the DVR of the game. Sorry, but Kane is being called out. The announcers wouldn't have said he left his team defending a 5-on-3 if this was a compliment. They would have said Kane is staying back for a pass out to the point. Also the tone of the announcers was of disappointment. Listen to it again.
To RK - game #5 against Nashville was NOT the same situation. Kane did NOT have a breakaway by lurking at center ice to score the tying goal. Go back and watch it. The Hawks were in the offensive zone for quite a few passes. Kane tied the game by going to the net. Totally different situation than hanging back at center ice while your team is in the defensive zone trying to get it out on a 5-on-3 cause Kane won't go back to help them out.
To Pez - I agree that it's fine to keep someone at center ice at times when you're down a goal, but in this case the Hawks were also on a penalty kill and they were struggling to cycle the puck out of their own zone. Kane needs to come back and help in that situation. As you saw, precious time ticked off the clock cause it was 5-on-3 without him back there to help out.
