but this is baseball, it doesn't change where you play it still baseball and we don't know where Heyward prefers to live so..

Well St. Louis is a shithole compared to Chicago. So that wouldn't make a lot of sense. D.C. isn't awesome unless you work in government. Anaheim city is a shithole so unless he plants to live in Santa Monica and commute that's not great, plus Cali will eat a ton of his paycheck.

I don't think the reported 10/200mil that's out there will get it done. If you're Heyward, it makes much more sense to go 8 years and then get another big contract at 34 while you still can. If he gets his swing ironed out his power will really develop and he could still be looking at a very significant contract then.

I'm curious if the braves trade Teheran... not just because of the cubs but they already have 6 of the top 100 prospects and the #3 pick in next season's draft. They could also potentially trade Freeman and get a haul of players and since they are likely to suck next year anyways you're talking about another likely top 5 pick in 2017. You want to talk about a team built to potentially compete with the cubs soon....

It makes the most sense for Heyward to have an opt out after 3-4 years. Then sign another giant long term deal then.

11:54pm: Heyman tweets that the Nationals are believed to have offered about or exactly $200MM to Heyward.

11:52am: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that the Cardinals are “out” on Heyward.

11:50am: Jason Heyward has made a decision on which team he’ll sign with, a source tells Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (Twitter link). Goold writes that while the Cardinals were aggressive, it doesn’t sound like Heyward chose them. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweets that the Nationals aren’t optimistic about a deal, either. The Cubs are “very much in play,” says Goold, though no report has indicated that Chicago has agreed to terms with Heyward just yet.

Heyward was said recently to be nearing a decision, with the Cubs, Cardinals and Nationals as finalists. The Angels were, at one point, said to be a finalist also, and the Giants have been linked to him, though they reportedly never made a formal offer.

Sounds a lot like the cubs are in the lead.

Be interesting to see where Heyward ends up. I liked our chances until the Nats jumped in.

Multiple sources indicate Heyward has indeed chosen Cubs over Cards, Nats.

Heyman is reporting its for less than 200 million. He is also reporting he took less to be a Cub.

Good for him....sounds like a kid with integrity. Also sounds like a good fit in the clubhouse.

Awesome to hear. Any news on Soler?

Nothing yet. From all the stuff I've been incessantly following on twitter, thought seems to be the cubs believe he can play CF. So, Soler might be fine for the moment though if Almora comes up in a year or two then you might have some worry.

and then there is this....

#Cubs have agreed to terms with Jason Heyward, multiple sources say, and are not done yet. They are trying to trade for a starting pitcher.
