Baez to Braves is not happening so go home baseball Twitter, you're drunk
Keith Law just shot down everything with a heat seeking missile

God Damnit, this would have been a good trade!!! Are the Braves fucking with the Cubs?
Didn't you not want Shelby Miller?
Or are you one of these Madden, armchair fapping GMs?
I didn't want to trade Soler for Miller. I value Soler much more than I do Baez.
I view them about equal although they both have different question marks. Soler's are the history of soft tissue injuries and the inability to be anything more than an average corner OF at best. I think his floor is as a solid MLB player that might sniff an All Star game or two. His ceiling is maybe 4 or 5 AS games and a consistent power threat with a solid plate approach. I don't see a superstar there in either case. One of Baez main knocks has been his floor and I think that's higher than we thought. At worst, with his defensive skills and strong work ethic, he's a high end utility player with pop that can play all over the field. At best he's an elite power hitter who again can play all 4 IF positions and maybe OF. His change in approach in the minors last year and his dramatic drop in K rate in AAA from 2014 to 2015 is impressive. Once it was tough to view him any better than a 28-30% K rate guy but if he's a 23-25% guy he's a superstar not far from Giancarlo Stanton. Moving either guy could bite you in the ass. That doesn't mean you don't consider moving either one if it makes your team better.
The thing with Baez is that we already have Russell and Castro. If we're not moving Castro, then we need to move Baez. We don't need all 3 of these guys.
People were clamoring for Ben Zobrist. Baez is going to end up just as versatile with the ability to slug 30 to 40 homers in a season. That is tempting to any team. Also, he has had one not even full year of swing adjustments and he came a long way. I would rather try to push Soler. I don't think Soler ceiling is as high as people thought. He has had injury concerns. Baez has only had freak injuries. I would love Shelby Miller but I would love for it to probably be for Soler or something other than Baez. Im a gambler by nature and I want to gamble on him.
My only concern with moving Baez is Addison Russell seems to be injury prone. If he goes down, we're looking at a La Stella/Castro infield. And La Stella was injured himself most of last year.
I think Soler is more likely to develop into an offensive monster than Baez. Soler has tremendous plate disciple. Baez brings + defense to the table.
Baez or Soler is a really tough call. If we acquire Shelby Miller, I hope he's good.
People who wanted Zobrist wanted him for lack of strikeouts + high OBP. That's not the same skill set as Baez (though to be honest, with the Lackey signing, trading either Baez or Soler for a SP seems like an overpay).
