That just shows you what I think about the guy that I don't even know his name.
You're letting that diploma down.

He sucked for the Cubs last year and I'd like to see him be escorted out of town ASAP. Hendricks is fine at #5, Lackey is more of a #4 at his age. Cubs need someone to stick in the #3 slot, preferably Gray or Salazar.
He was just fine in the first half. He was never the same after the hammy injury. If nothing happens, use him in the first half and jettison him in time for the playoff run for a prospect from another team.

I'm a commodities trader at a Chicago based Hedge Fund. I think I'm doing okay :smug2:

Or package him in a deal with Baez or Soler in exchange for Gray or Salazar.

They did win 97 games last year. Really hard for them not to.
Is 95 games and a division win a step back? I'd be more concerned with not making the NLCS. That would be a "step back".

As of now, their still basically the same team

No replacement for Fowler yet

They added Lackey to replace the merry go round they had in the 5 spot

Everything else is the same
so , pretty light offseason so far

Do people forget how last season went?

First 97 games: 51-46 (.526% aka 85 win pace)
Last 65 games: 46 - 19 (.708% aka 114 win pace)

The Cubs the last two+ months were world beaters. While it would be great to make drastic changes, they are WAY more likely to get internal improvement from hitters than they are to go out in FA and acquire a ton of hitters who hit at high levels. The Cubs are not a team that needs to do anything that drastic, just a little tinkering is sufficient.

And I guarantee if they get bounced in the wild card game or NLDS, apologists will come on here defending the team and management and keep going on about "Well shucks, all you can ask is they get in the playoffs and then anything can happen."

Seriously? We are built for a decade long run, man. All we can do is make it to the playoffs as many times as possible and hopefully we'll break through. That is the only formula to winning a WS. You have to get hot at the right time against the right opponent.

Sounds like the Cubs are trying to get Zobrist and then move Castro. I'd do that trade.

My take away is the cubs seem to be casting a wide net on options and will pick and choose what suits them. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad because seems like other teams hyper focus on stuff and while you can easily see the reason why the cubs would go that route, I'm sure theres reasons against it.

Told Gardner is NOT part of conversations with #Cubs about Castro

No, this sounds like the Cubs are moving contracts/guys. The Castro move is going to free up the money for the Zobrist move. I think the two are tied together so it's a both/neither type thing.

The playoffs are essentially random. Getting there is all you really can do and make a tweak or two at the deadline in anticipation of match ups.

Think you're missing my point. They have a series of options. They can go for Heyward. They could go for castro trade and Zobrist. They could re-sign Fowler....etc. These are all the options that have been discussed as possible.

Wondering if Castro > NYY is some sort of deal for prospects to then in turn deal for <y> because who else are you trading him for if not Gardner? Miller makes some sense but he adds salary and doesn't seem to make a ton of sense if you're getting rid of Castro to save money.

Theo says the Cubs are getting closer to a deal. They are trying to sync up a trade and FA. That sounds like Zobrist/Castro move, IMO

Theo: "We're not particularly close to anything in center field." It remains the priority. Said options include giving up some O for big D.
