I agree that losing out on Lebron isn't the worst thing that could happen. I don't feel we need Lebron to compete for a championship in the near future. I'm not worrying about Lebron, I'm more worried about striking out on the top talent available.

I completely agree with this. While LeBron is without a doubt the best player in this clase, he isnt the greatest need for this team like regoob said. How may times have analysts beaten the dead horse about how we need inside scoring and a good three point shooter? The Bulls could get Bosh and Joe Johnson and easily compete with anyone in this league. With uprising all-star PG in Rose and a guy who controls the boards like Noah and still have a guy who would be your 4th scoring option in Deng, who the hell can compete? No teams in the East. Also Taj was a pretty damn reliable PF(NBA Rookie 1st team) for us last season. As the last option on the team he gave us 9-7.5.

Cub, youre kind of out of line for bashing Regoob for his opinion, which isnt moronic or crazy at all.

Also, the mentioning of getting JJ and LeBron... How could we do that with Deng? Him nor LeBron are playing PF and Deng is a waste on the bench. If we land LeBron, you add any top PF you can get your hands on starting with Bosh and work your way down to Boozer.

Theres a side of me that wants LBJ to stay in Cleveland. We could sign Bosh and tell Wade that Johnson is willing to sign with us so you can either join us or rot in Miami with a team that could be great but ultimately cant match up with us.

This isnt homerism speaking but we have a team that doesnt need to have a guy like LeBron or Wade. We've got young talent thats only going to get better. Rose could be a superstar in the making.

Which is what he's doing. His 2009, 2010 and 2011 classes are fucking awesome.

Btw, Bruce is known as one of the best X's and O's coaches out there. The man knows his stuff. When Bruce had talent, he went 37-2 (or whatever their record was). The question wasn't if he could coach, it was if he could recruit talent. Illinois basketball will see a large turn around with the amount of talent we currently have on the team.

Sorry for getting this thread off track. Back to your regularly scheduled programming. :bulls:

he did go 37-2 with Self's recruit's and himself hasnt proved much beside's 05

he's a decent coach but he is not close to the elite category

and sorry but the illini fans have been saying this since 05 that they are going to be great..win NCs now ..blah blah..

fact is the illini dont live up to expectations and such

i mean werent they ranked last year and missed the tourney

meh maybe they'll prove me wrong

You guys have seen my argument with Alfailure Sorianblow. Name me one team in the league that starting 5 looks that good. Thats 3 all-stars, one borderline all-star and an 18-8 and you still have Taj on the bench. Also if JJ signs for less than max like people have been saying, you all of a sudden have a little bit of money to maybe get one quality bench player.

^i have to agree somewhat

Akron is his home so Ohio is also kind of his home and he has been a legend in Cleveland

Kobe and Jordan never left their teams

but im sorry to say Lebron may not win a ring with the Cavs

at least i dont think he would in the next couple of years

^thats true

they may still get worse if lebron stays because they are probably going to shop a couple of players because of cap and contract issues

I dont think he will either but thats not why i would want him to stay in Cleveland. For the record, i would want him to stay in Cleveland if he didnt sign with us. i dont want him in miami because Miami doesnt deserve another superstar and i hate NY and everything about that place. I hate LeBron but i would love him on this team. Im saying that it would be nice to watch him go ringless for the next 3-6 years in CLE if he didnt sign with us.

The Cavs are in horrible position right now. They dont have cap room and their #2 guy puts up #s similar to Deng and is almost a decade older than him. Jamison is only gonna get worse. Mo-Will is a one dimensional spot up shooter w/ no defense and at 27, will he really learn to drive to the basket or defend? Shaq and Z are done. You know what youre getting with Andy V. The only guy on that team that shows any signs of getting better is Hixon. That team has good depth but theres no upside and LeBron is the sole reason they are as good as they are. Theres no doubt that the talent on this team far surpasses them.

:support:

My thoughts exactly. We have a very nice core right now that will only get better as Rose, Noah and Gibson develop. I personally believe Rose will be a superstar when it's all said and done. You just can't teach a 40 inch vertical and blinding speed at PG. He's the LeBron James of PG's (physically speaking). Noah is a double-double every night. Deng is a solid SF. Taj still has room to get stronger and develop a post game.

Adding Johnson and Boozer would be a successful offseason. Yea, we will probably overpay for them but Rose - Johnson - Deng - Boozer - Noah is bar none the best all around starting 5 in the league.

Quite frankly, LeBron and/or Bosh would be stupid not to sign with us. Sure, on paper playing with Wade looks great but how much longer will he be at the top of his game. His body is worn down as it is. I think he's at the peak of his career right now and the only way to go is down for him. And New York/New Jersey? :lmao:

If those players want to win titles, Chicago is the place to come. Followed by Miami and the Clippers (they have a lot of young talent). Honestly, we have the best pitch out of anyone in free agency.

Good Core - check
Youth - check
Big Market - check
Tradition - check
Coach - check (this is our weakest pitch right now, and that's saying something)
Championship Potential - check

the Cavs were only good because of James and Hickson. Shaqtus will be gone, Mo has never been that special and Antwan's career is coming down imo.

The only way they have a chance at winning a title is through a sign and trade. So, Williams/Hickson/West for Bosh or something along those lines. They have to free up some cap space and/or trade for a big name. LeBron is never going to win a title with that team. It's failed the last two years, and with a majority of the free agents coming over to the East, it'll be even harder for him to advance.

If he's all about winning, which he said he was in his final press conference, then Miami and Chicago should be his top two options. Lord knows though he's not the brightest crayon in the box.

false

jj averaged 8.5 PPG,4.9 RPG

i think the main reason the cavs have been so good the last two years

is lebron has gotten EVEN BETTER

and the fact that the cavs finally have a decent PG who can be a reliable scorer

i mean just look at the win differential from 07-08 to 08-09 you dont think mo had something to do with it?

although imo he is overrated and his stats are inflated because of lebron

and i agree with antawn and i dont think the deal did much

he was also overrated in wash. because he was putting up good numbers but his team was horrible
