Oh, I usually do... and while my comments weren't aimed at you - it's just the way some people like carry themselves. The "well... I've played guitar for a couple of years and therefore know more about everything 'music'" type. Even outside this board (critics and the like) - just a pet peeve of mine. I've been playing an instrument for over 20 years and hardly feel like an expert when it comes to anything musical... I just know what I like (and some days I'm still learning that, too).
And thank His Noodily Appendage for it!
I definitely wasn't arguing that one doesn't have the option to an opinion... I just get my feathers ruffled with others phrasing opinions as "facts." (Especially in the separate arenas music and religious dogma but that's a discussion for another day that hopefully never comes on IHN).
I would hope when your home alone you listen to what you want!
Again, not arguing that folks aren't allowed an opinion... I've just noticed a trend lately (and I'm not saying you fall into this) that some hate Nickleback just because it's the "cool" thing to do. But somebody must still be listening, buying albums and concert tickets! Honestly I've never cared one way or the other for them... but I've heard Kroeger talk about his craft, and I while I may not be rushing out to get their music, I respect him as a writer. The same way I respect Stephanie Germanada (aka - "Lady Gaga") as a writer. I think her "pop" schtick is tired and an American slant on shit Bjork has already done... but I've heard her non-pop stuff and she's actually a really good songwriter.
It isn't everything... but it can afford one the opportunity to do more with one's creative pursuits! I always liked the line, "Real musicians have day-jobs."[/quote]
Just for the record, once you hit fifty, you no longer do anything because its the "cool" thing to do!
The money would be handy - I'm not sure if I've even covered my costs in the art department. Probably not, but its still something I absolutely love doing.
BTW this is a link to my webpage where I "archive" my work:
