I think Toews should retire now before he does get a concussion and hurts the team. I mean there is a chance of it happening so he might just want to retire and not take chances

I agree. He should start tomorrow night before Burrows pulls his hair and concusses him from the trauma.

Or maybe burrows goes after Seabrooks Testicles. He should retire too.

The team is playing so well that they should all retire before they get injured.

Yeah, again, the all or nothing arguments that come from so many discussions on here. Ridiculous. It's completely different if he gets hurt simply playing hockey, doing what he does best. Taking part in fighting is completely different, and the reasons why that even happened make it worse. The way fans just accept that is mind boggling. Someone actually said they'd be okay if he gets hurt while fighting and never plays again. There's no comparison to things like blocking shots.

What is mind boggling is the people against that particular fight. Toews has dropped them 2 or 3 times in his NHL career. So it is obvious he had a pretty good reason for dropping them since he doesn't do it all that often. The odds of him getting hurt in a fight are so fucking slim. And if he does get hurt and his career is over? SO FUCKING WHAT that was his choice. He is a big boy and knows the consequences.

You are still conveying a my way or the highyway (all or nothing) counter. It is no different and by doing so weakens that as your counter to others opinions. And really that is all this is, people's opinions....something to respect and discuss/understand. Don't have to agree, but also don't need to frivolously pick apart either.

For everything he has done for this team and sacrificed to provide leadership... He deserves the right to do something like this after all the times he's turned the other cheek. It was early in the first, and they are the best team in the league. He is the last person on the team that anyone should be questioning with decision making.

My only concern was him possibly breaking his hand landing a punch on Joe helmet.

Why? He lied about playing through concussion symptoms just this past season. What kind of a decision was that? A good one? The future of the franchise rests heavily on him. You can't just keep hoping that decisions like that don't eventually catch up to him. I don't know why people seem so willing to accept losing him or having him cut his career short to stupid garbage like that. Why not expect more from the league to combat that instead of just accepting it?

You haven't even addressed any of the questions. Do you believe I'm wrong in saying the NHL needs to change the way they handle penalties? Do you believe that (and increased supplemental discipline) would affect guys like Joe Thornton more than fights? If you can avoid any potential injuries that way, why would that not be pursued? People are going to extremes here in response to me, I'm not saying Toews has to change the way he plays.

That had nothing to do with my comment or opinion that I was expressing and really no reason to address....there are tons of stuff that happens during games that the refs see or do not see. It is their discretion as to if it was egregious, play preventing, dangerous, etc.

There's too many instances to count where the ref is right there watching it happen and doesn't call it. I guess that only counts if it supports an argument you like. No matter what though, it's not a smart thing for Toews to do. Can we at least agree on that?

Toews has dropped them 2 or 3 times in his NHL career.

...He's thought about it one other time, but decided against it.

I can agree with that. It was brilliant. Brilliant is a few steps above smart.

Thornton, Backes and I can't remember the third, but I read that he's had three fights, I believe was in the Tribune article Ida B Wells Nephew posted a few days ago.

Anyone know/remember who the third person was he fought?

He went with Iggy if I recall correctly. I couldnt remember the Backes fight. Seems fighting Iggy is a captain rite of passage since Lecavalier did it too and got his ass handed to him in the 04 playoffs
