While I like McDermott and I think he'll improve, I didn't like us giving up those two first rounders for him. We basically traded Jusuf Nurkic and Gary Harris for him. Both could have been starters for us down the road.

McDermott was hands down the best shooter in that draft. The team desperately needed shooting, plus had Mirotic waiting in the wings to sign his rookie deal, so there was no way the FO was going to use both of those picks. Doug basically was red shirted last year so this is like his rookie campaign and he's been doing a stellar job thus far. He appears to be the only player on the team, outside of Hinrich oddly enough, who actually understands and is succeeding in Hoiberg's system.

agree with everything you said...throw in noah as another guy that fits hoiberg's system

Here is what we need to do. Get rid of Noah, Gibson, Rose, and Gasol. We need to blow this team up. Get rid of the aging veterans and Rose because he will never be the same. Gibson is young enough where we could still get some value. We would be left with a nucleus of Butler, Mirotic, Portis, and McDermott all locked up or with the exception of Butler, all on their rookie deals and still on the cheap. Roll with these guys because at least they have some upside and let's rebuild a little bit and let Hoiberg get guys who fit his system.

I am now of the opinion you get rid of everyone except for rookie contract types and Butler... If I was Gar/Pax, that is where I would go. Rose you have to keep cause no one would want that awful contract, but I did hear today, you could waver wire him and then if no one claims, release but split his contract into 3 years or such? Going $7 per instead of a 22 mil hit year 1? That right? If so I would do that as well.
