I wouldn't mind Ray Whitney or Sheldon Souray on short term contracts... might even take a chance on Brad Boyes - for depth - none of this excludes making a try at one of the higher ticket guys.

I don't care if Bolland, Bickell, O'Donnell, Hjalmarsson are on the team or not ... actually aside from Toews- they can feel free to deal anyone they like as far as I am concerned.

I don't disagree...except there are two more I'd add to your "keep" list. Even though he did have a down year, I do not want to see 2 go. 7 as well.

I believe 43 is also untouchable.

Assuming we stick with the same tender tandem (not far fetched at all) and depending on the cap after the CBA is agreed upon, I think hard about pulling the trigger to ship 43 to get Staal here (with an extension, maybe?). I'd still like to see a big SAH aggressive type brought in, but that's not Q's m.o. Without the forwards to execute his puck possession dream, the smallish d will continue to get murdered in his passive always use your stick system.

Saad would be nowhere near my untouchable list.

He should have a bright future but he is still a prospect and definitely not an elite prospect.

I'd trade him in a second if it makes sense...and there are probably a lot of deals out there that would make sense, not just a select few for Saad.

I wouldn't put him on the list but I'm just joke referencing the rumor mill made it seem Bowman was hesitant to make several moves because Saad was what teams wanted.

None of those moves might of been excellent long term solutions but perhaps they may of been a big boost in the playoffs.

I see where you're going with this... and, I will qualify this with a 'I have no problem dealing Keith for the right guy' --- there are very few right guys .. Shea Weber for one ... sure it is a lateral move maybe (in my mind it isn't).

File this away under the Adam Beach folder .... deal when a guy is perceived to be a hot prospect - (or ditch what might become a never-will-be headcase deadweight ... and do it before it is too late ... probably like now)... Yep, I agree, I think with HW.

Ok, well I don't know that I would deal Kane at this point, as it clearly comes off as a 'shipping out a problem child' situation -which basically means that you get offered somewhat less than market-value or an equivalent party-boy dip... do you sell at the bottom of the market is really what the question is... I think Kane can bounce back ... but at the same time that doesn't mean that I wouldn't unload the guy at what point that might happen ... it is a bit of a gamble, sure ...

Saad is the exact kind of player the Hawks need: a power forward. So sure you want to move that now?

There is a pretty solid group of prospects in the Hawks. You could throw in a few of them and not have to trade the guy that could be your best one ... and could fill a major hole on this team in a year ... or two ... or a few months.

Tim Kerr, Cam Neely, Mark Messier, Curt Fraser, were Power Forwards... Brendan Saad is a player with a handful of NHL games, and is a Junior Player -granted a Junior player with a projected upside --- however that is pretty different to being an NHL level power forward by anyone's definition.

I don't see Saad projecting to be a power forward in the NHL, not one bit in my eyes. Kinda just like southerncross just said.

He has a bright future but is still an unproven prospect.

This was written before the previous season:

Talent Analysis
At his best, Saad is a power forward with the strength and scoring touch to wreak havoc in front of the net. He is strong and solidly built at 6'1 and 203 pounds, but does not always use his size as much as he should. Good hockey sense and able to create space for himself as well as linemates. Responsible in his own zone and anticipates the play well. Potential top six power forward, but needs to play with more consistency.

Who is Adam Beach?
