I would love to get Heyward but I just don't see the penny pinching Ricketts opening up the checkbook this year.
The long rewarding journey is still long. Nwfisch will want to know the news.

Apparently spending $26 mil/season last year and $16 mil/season so far this year on pitching counts as "penny pinching."

Yes that's chump change. Cubs ranked 13th in payroll in 2015. That's a joke. Cubs were 6th in attendance and the team has an estimated value of $1.8 billion. And they're spending like mid market chumps under Ricketts.

I'm not going to take this bait. If you can't understand what the cubs are doing and how that's working then that's your own problem.

I'm not sure if they're targeting Heyward to jack up the cost for the Cardinals or if they really want to land him. Frankly I'm fine with it either way. Heyward is a near perfect fit for both teams and even if they price St. Louis out of it and another team swoops in it's a win. Frankly I'd kind of like to see him in Chicago.

Source: Zobrist choosing between #Mets and #Cubs. Comparable offers. Only question is which team he wants to join. #Nationals on periphery.

There's 2 possibilities left for this off season:

1. Jason Heyward
2. LOL

apparently the rockies are open to trading Charlie Blackmon...what you guys think? he can play CF, hits for power and steals bases. OBP of .347, could be a solid leadoff guy that we have been looking for. slide zobrist to the #2 spot

of course...that's the case with every Colorado hitter seemingly. I believe cargo has a similar drop off in his home/away but teams still seem pretty interested still

Guess depends on what they are asking for. Not sure I'd give up much more than a Vogelbach level prospect for him

agreed.

with Blackmon I feel youre getting slightly better defense than fowler, Blackmon has a good arm in CF. has a good OBP with some power, and the real bonus is his ability to steal bases. he had 43 last year. that's an element not currently on the roster. you did bring up a legit point of the home/away splits....the hope would be that putting him in front of zobrist, Bryant, Rizzo, etc he should see good pitches to hit to offset some of that
