7:10pm: Caratini will be part of the trade once it occurs, but Campusano won’t, Nightengale tweets.

The Cubs will be getting the prospects Tampa didn't want, and yet another second baseman.

Cubs are hoping to get "needed pitching" from the team that just made two trades for needed pitching.

They need to replace Darvish now and they need a youth arm. With their catcher off the board it looks like Weather's is the most likely to come over. He has strong command of 4 pitches.

That's OK if the Cubs instead get equal value at a different position. But the way things are going, the Padres likely said, "nah....we're keeping one of the four we initially offered".

Sounds like 4-2.

Most likely
Davies (now), Cromwell (now)
CJ (future), Weather's (future)

So, just so I understand what the Cubs have done here.....

They told us to be patient, and they'd have money to burn once Marquess debuted.

Marquee is now a reality, and they are a) cutting costs and b) assembling a team nobody will want to watch.

Interesting plan!

You've been quite the whiner this offseason. Maybe wait until you actually know the return before melting down.

The cubs should be selling all valuable pieces and overhauling things over the next couple offseasons.

I'm guessing Gore was the target and Preller was hard no. They tried to push their catcher and the Cubs said pass. They wanted better. CJ is top 25.

Davies is just a innings eater for this deal. Weather's is the can't have Gore but you can have our next best.

Cromwell might end up in LF to replace Schwarber and lead off thus moving Happ into a RBI slot.

Amaya becomes the back up catcher.

I believe that Tom has taken it in the ass and his dad already sold America trade and is roasting weenies with Trump trying to screw America for more.

So Tommy has no life preserve to keep the faithful out of bankruptcy.

I wouldn't stress though. They need to reset tax. If CJ is legit then this team changes it's ID to a team that can kill you if he gets on.

This offseason? These are my first posts.

Why in God's name should the Cubs be trying to get rid if every good player and rebuild years down the road?

Sell high. Darvish is peaking right now. It makes sense for Jed to make a business deal right now.

His shirt term all tanked and none could get a return that impacts.

I would love the speed. But we seem to have fallen in love with quantity at 2nd.

How would he be out of money after selling TD Ameritrade for a million billion?

Get Mark Cuban on the phone, dammit! ?

I am actually OK with selling high on Yu. I am OK with the team getting a much needed shakeup. But that's far different from gutting and rebuilding and sucking again.

Letting Schwarber walk for no return was sickening. Now we will watch as Bryant, Baez, Contreras all follow.

CJ can play all over. He is a SS with a plus arm that plays up in CF with range and arm power.

I believe that we would see Cromwell at LF this year and he could move to SS if Jed decides to off Javy.

Baez I can see them selling off. Bryant and Rizzo I am leaning towards extension.

If you look at it they cut Darvish and Baez. That money goes towards Bryzzo with cap reset and full seats again. The staff would have Hendricks as the bread winner and 3 cost controlled starters after him. They could even look at investing at this point.

Say 2022 they have a rotation of Hendricks, Alzolay, Marquez, Mills, Weathes.

Line up.

Caraway SS
Hoerner 2B
Happ LF
Bryant 3B
Rizzo 1B
Contreras C
Heyward RF
Davis CF

Then when CJ is ready he goes CF and Davis to RF. (Have him add weight) Heyward off roster by then.

The Padres are all in at this point. If they want the Cy Young runner up, the Cubs should hold firm on Gore. Who else are they going to trade for instead?

Because they've failed miserably like 4 years in a row and are a poorly built team. And I specifically remember you whining about them being cheap in another thread this offseason

If cubs are trading Yu, then they might as well trade Hendricks as well

I don't think it's a matter of money or more specifically just about money. I think it's more they realize the team as presently constructed needs more than a band aid.

Well, I guess I don't take notes like you do.

And apparently I am the only person unhappy that the organization that told us to wait for the TV network has decided to dump payroll.

I simply don't think, once you have built the organization as they did, that you need to suck to rebuild again. Most good organizations don't, and I fully expected the Cubs to remain competitive without doing so.
