Not sure if I should believe this guy, but I saw this post from yesterday on some forum:

Better not be true...

WOW. Why do the Cubs love Byrd so much? Dude is just AVG at everything. Trade his ass for some specs and let B-Jax PLAY!!

I doubt that's true. They had a lot of thought of calling him up this year, so I don't see it. Also, there will be a new GM, so no one would know.

BJax in as DH tonight, so probably just a day off. Plus they were blown out last night so no point in having him play and get injured in a lost game.

Yes, because what some joe schmoe says, means that it is set in stone. Isn't that what the Cubs were saying about some guy... I think Castro is his name...

That's exactly what they said about Castro last year... all through winter, ST, and even throughout April. Yet, Castro made his debut in early May... forcing Theriot to 2nd and the DeWitt/Baker experiment to the bench after he tore up the Southern League in April. If Jackson does the same thing next year, he'll get the call too.

Plus, I wonder how reliable a guy that works for the front office of the Arizona team (that has few real ties to the front office of the MLB team... and assuming this is true... remember, minor league teams generally have a front office staff of fewer than 5 people: team owner, a GM -which is usually the owner-, a forward scout, a marketing exec -often the team owner-, and a secretary to answer phone calls) can be when there's no real GM at the MLB level, and a large potential for the current manager/coaching staff at the MLB level to be gone in a few weeks.

I think the only way Jackson isn't in the opening day lineup next year is if he has a terrible show with Team USA and a lukewarm ST... or if they manage to bring in someone like Cuddyer to play RF.

I think you are really underestimating the number of front office people in a minor league team. About a week ago I looked up the minor league team in Bloomington and they had at least 25 people working for them. I would have to imagine that an actual team linked to a MLB organization would have more.

Even if they do bring in a Cuddyer or a Kubel, I still think BJax is starting in CF. I just really hope Byrdman isn't on this team anymore

I've spent a lot of time with the local A's AA affiliate front office people. I used to be one of the "fosters" for the team until this season. They have a team owner who acted as their marketing exec. They have a GM that was brought in by Oakland. They had 2 scouts that were actually affiliated with the team (a few others were hired by the As and had little to do with the team), and an administrative assistant. They might have a couple of more scouts now, and they may have promoted a certain guy that's been with the team for 20 years. But you're still looking at less than than 10. Just about every team in the Texas League is setup the same way.

It might be slightly different for Mesa, since that's also the training center. However, the Cubs would have their own front office people there during ST.

Now, if you count the people that clean up the stadium, work the concession stands, announce the games, etc... there's probably 30 or so total.

As for Cuddyer/Kubel... I agree. I think you can trade Byrd, and basically swap his salary for Cuddyer. Kubel would be cheaper. The problem is, Jackson has to be ready. If he doesn't show that he is come ST, he'll be back in Iowa.

Justin Berg to undergo Tommy John surgery. I know no one would give a shit because he sucks, but this is good news. Good news=no call-up to Cubs and we don't have to see him pitch. But also sad, his career could be over.

No waldo, his call-up could have advanced our draft position, the injury screwed us over... :smug:

Prolly worked out well for Stevens. Cause now he can go on 60 Day DL instead of being cleared from 40 man roster this offseason

If the Cubs are smart, they will re-work their whole farm system. Release players who have no chance/or DFA them and if they pass, take them off of the 40 man roster. Also, the Cubs have quite a few players that will be elgible for the Rule V draft that are not bad and should be kept.

I agree...thats why i assumed he would have been DFA..now he prolly wont. Will be put on 60 Day DL and it doesnt use up spot on 40 man roster

Yeah he will, def when the draft comes up. He'll prolly be out the whole year, so that'll help out a lot.
