AAAA legend Bryan LaHair ----> 38 HR
I take it will be next year before we see either Dunston Jr or Maples in a minor league game.

If they dont get Fielder hope to see him starting 1B next year. Im assuming he can hit .220 25 HR 75 RBI next year. Guess what? Thats Pena numbers and he would cost ALOT less

Cubs top pick, Javier Baez moved fronm AZL to Boise. In the lineup for Boise today.
His OBP would also be a lot less given that scenario because he doesn't have nearly the eye that Pena does.If they dont get Fielder hope to see him starting 1B next year. Im assuming he can hit .220 25 HR 75 RBI next year. Guess what? Thats Pena numbers and he would cost ALOT less

I love how people just dismiss LaHair because he's been in the minors for so long. Like, that alone means he's worthless. Couldn't possibly be the fact that he was blocked by DLee until this season. There was one argument that he's only been good in the PCL for the past three years... not true. He was on pace for 25 HR in 2008 as well, when he was called up to baically sit the bench that year. Oh, but he sucked when he was 25. So does Colvin... and most of the same people down on LaHair are begging for Colvin to play more. BTW, LaHair put up better numbers at 25 than Colvin has.
LaHair has been dominant the past 4 years in the PCL. If you actually watched the games streaming through milb.com, you'd actually see the guy is a very good hitter. The comparisons to Fox and Hoffpauir are made by people who have never seen him hit in comparison to those guys. LaHair doesn't have the looping swing or the massive low-inside to high outside gash in his swing like LaHair. He doesn't just try to hit bombs and show no patience at all like Fox.
The guy deserves a shot to at least be seen. I don't care what he did 3 years ago in limited action. He's putting up numbers in AAA that guys like Pena and Soriano would struggle with. We act like the PCL is just some ridiculously bad league... but it's rated higher than the NPL in Japan. It does feature some good pitchers, though not the caliber of MLB pitchers. There are some PCL staffs that include pitchers that would be #2-3 SPs for teams like Houston, Oakland, etc right now. But they are injury reserves for other teams.
Let's see what the guy can do before we just dismiss him. Because guys don't ever succeed after the age of 26... right?
Jose Bautista... age 29 finally breaks out of mediocrity.
Michael Morse age 29 getting his first chance at playing everyday for Washington... and kicking ass.
Rick Ankiel came back at 28 and put up one big season before injuries caught back up to him.
Jayson Werth got his first shot as a regular (not going up and down to AAA) when he was 29
Nyger Morgan was 29 last year in his first full time at the MLB level... look at what he's doing for Milwuakee this year at 30.
How dare the Cardinals give Skip Schumaker his shot to be with the team at 28?
Arizona's Ryan Roberts (at 30) anyone?
That Cody Ross guy got his start at 27... didn't he like win some MVP award for the NLCS last year?
Don't look now, but Ryan Ludwick put up 3 pretty good years... after getting his shot at 28.
Josh Willingham.... 27.
Whoa... hey... don't tell Nelson Cruz he should be at AAA because got his big shot at 28.
These are just positional players. This doesn't include pitchers like CJ Wilson (put in the rotation at 29) or Wandy Rodriquez that finally put it together at... 29.
Maybe not, but he's shown he can walk 50-60 times a year. How many years would it take Colvin to add up that many walks?
Exactly he doesn't have the same level of patience as Pena. So when you guys say oh he can hit .225 like Pena that really isn't the same thing.
It would be awesome if this was guy was another Michael Morse, but the odds are stacked against him that he is. And the only way we will know it is by giving him the job next season. Which means passing on a historic opportunity to add at that position.
And seriously what is up with your hatred of Colvin. No one here is saying that he is going to be an all-star. All we've suggested is that a former top 100 prospect that is still 25 ought to get some at bats to see if he can stick as a regular.
I don't hate Colvin... but I keep seeing him put up as the alternate here or there. I think he has decent potential, but I have my doubts as to whether or not he'll even come close to reaching it.
I'm also not saying that LaHair is going to be a superstar, or even very good. Heck, I don't know if he'll hit above the Mendoza line. However, I do think he could hit around .250... give or take... and put up 20 or so HR. Depending on where he's batting, he could put up decent RBI totals as well. I also believe he's a better player overall than Colvin is... and the majority of the guys on our bench now.
I'm not saying he's the future or anything like that. I'm just saying it won't hurt to give him a shot if the team decides to not pursue Fielder or some other 1B. I don't think he can do much worse than Pena has, I really don't. He'd do it at less than 5% of Pena's cost.
