Didnt we hear montador and hossa were cleared to do their summer workouts?

Q said, before the draft, that Hossa will be ready for camp. There's a thread in this forum on it.

Montador I'm not sure about.

Matt Carle is a must or the defense will be even more of a train wreck.

Wait...

2011-12 Hawks defense without Matt Carle vs. 2012-13 Hawks defense without Matt Carle... I agree that it is a trainwreck but how is it more of one than before?

all I know is they are going to have to make some critical moves. No stop gap fillers, it doesnt work, and the moneyball philosophy doesnt apply to hockey in all seriousness.

Well no shit... it would have to be called Moneypuck. :blackhawks:

Some Hawk fans laughing at the Wings, when should be more worried about our own cluster **** team right now.

At least the Wings have Dats, Filppula/Zetterberg & Helm/Abdelkader down the middle.

Their defense right now is questionable but off-season is far from done.

Jimmy Howard > both the sieves we have in net.

Is that even worth saying? Okay, they have a good goalie who is better than ours... that's obvious as hell. And of course he is better than our backup

Ya, their defense may be questionable, and the off-season is far from done... that's what you don't realize when ranting about the Hawks defense and the wasted off-season, a move can still be made.

And sure they have Datsyuk, Filppula, Zetterberg, Helm, and Abdelkader, but it isn't like we have nothing.

Datsyuk vs. Sharp
-Sharp 9.7 PS > Datsyuk 7.9 PS
--Sharp 7.3 OPS > Datsyuk 5.7 OPS
--Sharp 2.4 DPS > Datsyuk 2.2 DPS
Filppula vs. Kane
-Filppula 7.9 PS > Kane 6.9 PS
--Filppula 5.7 OPS > Kane 5.3 OPS
--Filppula 2.2 DPS > Kane 1.6 DPS
*Kane's career lows and Filppula's career highs FWIW
Toews 7.9 PS > Zetterberg 7.6 PS (BTW, does PS factor in games played, if so Toews is at a disadvantage and still surpasses him)
-Toews 6.2 OPS > Zetterberg 5.5 OPS
-Zetterberg 2.1 DPS > Toews 1.7 DPS
Helm doesn't show up on their depth chart on CBS, but by this point the core offensive players are scattered into different spots, so I put him against Stalberg.
Stalberg 5.3 PS > Helm 2.2 PS
-Stalberg 4.1 OPS > Helm 1.1 OPS
-Stalberg 1.2 DPS Helm 1.1 DPS
Abdelkader is listed on this depth chart as 3rd line LW, but Hossa hadn't been used by us for this yet, so if this is a core guy as you refer to him as, might as well throw Hossa into the mix instead of Bickell, our core vs. their core.
Hossa 9.4 PS > Abdelkader 1.6 PS
-Hossa 7.3 OPS > Abdelkader 0.5 OPS
-Hossa 2.1 DPS > Abdelkader 1.1 DPS

Basically, the Hawks 5 main offensive players are > than the five Detroit forwards you mentioned, I don't see what is so special about it compared to what we have.
Hawks 5 at 39.2 PS vs. 27.2 for the Wings players you mentioned.

Helm and Abdelkader are still young if that is why you included them, but then again, so are Toews, Kane, and Stalberg.

Howard's PS is 3 greater than Crawford's though, that is an area they kill us in.

For kicks, even though this has nothing to do with the irrelevancy of them having those 5 as something we can't match, but out of pure curiosity, I took Detroit's Top 5 in PS vs. the Hawks Top 5 in PS and here are the results:
Howard + Datsyuk + Filppula + Franzen + Lidstrom = 41.9
Sharp + Hossa + Toews + Seabrook + Crawford = 41.8
And of course Lidstrom retired and their next highest was .3 lower than him, but the two were comparable nevertheless.

We're in July & Montador hasn't been cleared for contact.

Kuc tweeted that a few weeks ago or whenever it was.

Personally I hate the Redwings but you have to respect their tradition of success.

They've got 4 Cups in the last 15 or so years and they have done nothing but win. They did the Stevie Y thing, they did the Red Army thing, they did the Swedes thing... whatever they do they just win.

I despise Vancouver and have no respect for them whatsoever. Detroit however I hate AND respect. Their consistent tradition of playing at a high level and making wise personnel moves forces me to give them the benefit of the doubt when they make changes.

Oh, and I can't forget my all-time favorite hockey player (because he played for the Houston Aeros sadly), Gordie Howe.

Come on. I hate them but that's a hell of a legacy they've built up there in that shithole town.

I know. I was just pointing out that it's easy to give them the benefit of the doubt at look at them through rose colored glasses because they've been so damned good for so long.

If you indeed think that. That's the simple proof that you are giving way to much benefit of the doubt to the Wings and you are evaluating history over current affairs.

Once again, Clyde just says it better than I can. Well put.

From 97-08, they won four in 11 years. They were the closest thing the NHL has seen to a dynasty since the Oilers in the 80s. And they did it playing a style of hockey that I enjoyed watching, even in a Winged Wheel sweater. I'm with you, I have tons of respect for the Wings while hating them at the same time. Ditto with the Packers in the NFL.

But in the last three seasons, they've won a grand total of TWO playoff series, including a first-round exit last year. For a team that boasts about it's championships, they haven't been close in the last three years. They've set a high, high bar for themselves and right now they aren't reaching it .

Lidstrom just retired. Hudler's gone. Holmstrom is a UFA. They didn't land Suter (like everyone thought they would) or Parise. A large part of their core in Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Franzen are on the wrong side of 30. And, as far as I know, their aren't any incredible prospects ready for a jump the pros.

So, JoeWings13's assertion that Hawks fans should be more worried than Wings fans is, IMO, wrong.

And, don't get me wrong. Hawks got plenty of holes, too. They've been discussed here enough that I'm sure we're all aware of them. Longhorn Bob has put together a few lengthy posts that detail all of them rather accurately.

But Wings are far from being in good shape themselves.

Predators are probably in better shape than Detroit and Chicago but losing Suter will be a big blow to them, as well.
