I don't think I'd want to give him any more than 2 years, and even that's pushing it.

Id offer him 3-4 frontloaded so he is only making 1-2 the last couple years

Isn't Doan at the age where if he signs a frontloaded contract and he retires the cap hit still counts?

We won't do it. There are other older guys who are better scorers on whom we've passed lately. We could've had Vinny Prospal or Handzus for peanuts last year, and there were plenty more just like them. For some reason, when we do it we always go after the bargain spud guys like Morrisson. Man I wanted Prospal last year...

Oh well... We've got make a trade or pray that several players have career years, Crawford finds his swerve, and Q stops jacking with the lines...

Just realized that i was wrong on my post. My bad. Said the opposite of what I thought.

Agent says that the Hawks are interested and have interest from Doan.

I still don't see it happening.

From Jaeckel's latest blog:

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/John-Jaeckel/More-HabsHawks-Hawks-BIG-on-Doan/128/45520

Not independent of this, I spoke with two sources yesterday on the Hawks' trade talks with the Habs. Late last night I heard from a Chicago source that the teams are discussing C Tomas Plekanec in exchange for a package starting with Niklas Hjalmarsson.

I also heard from two sources (last night and today) the teams are not discussing Patrick Kane. And from another source earlier yesterday evening that PK Subban will not be included in any deal.

And, to be fair, yet another source says there's nothing to the Montreal rumors. Though that source says the Hawks have come close on numerous deals before backing off "at the last minute."

Conflicting sources? Maybe. Or different people have different levels of access and the information is coming out at different times, from source to source.

Plekanec for Hammer+ fills the #2 center role, but leaves defense open again...

Jonathan Bernier Expects The Los Angeles Kings To Trade Him

Los Angeles Kings backup goaltender Jonathan Bernier had his day with the Stanley Cup on Thursday in his hometown of Laval, Que., and he took that opportunity to make it clear he doesn’t want to be a backup goaltender for much longer.

Bernier told TVA Sports he expects the Kings to trade him to a team in need of a starting goaltender close to the start of training camp for the 2012-13 season.

“I asked the Kings to trade me before the trade deadline, but they refused,” Bernier said. “Now that Jonathan Quick signed a long-term deal, I expect to be traded before training camp starts.”

Quick, the reigning winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, signed a 10-year, $58 million contract extension that could keep the 26-year-old in a Kings uniform until 2023. Bernier, 23, is entering the final season of a two-year contract and will be a restricted free agent on July 1, 2013.

Bernier also expressed a desire to play “closer to home,” TVA Sports reported.

Bernier played 16 games with the Kings last season, posting a 5-6-2 record with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. It was his second full season in Los Angeles and his games played dipped from 25 in 2010-11, when he had an 11-8-3 record with a 2.48 GAA and .913 save percentage.
Bernier’s final season with the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs in 2009-10 was dominant, with a 30-21-6 record, nine shutouts, a 2.03 GAA and .936 save percentage in 58 games. His workload in that season alone was 10 greater than the 48 career NHL games Bernier has appeared in.

Q updates

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville likes what he's seen from Brandon Saad is prospect camp. "He looks like he's ready to play," Quenneville said of Saad. "He can maybe not just make our team, he can do more than that." Saad has an outside chance of cracking one of the team's top two lines out of training camp. He's worth keeping a close eye on.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville thinks Corey Crawford might have just been a victim of the dreaded sophomore slump. "I'm very comfortable and confident with Corey," Quenneville said. "If you look back at the history of goaltenders, there's maybe a little bit of . a bounce factor in that second year. A number of top goalies have had that type of career path. We're expecting Corey to bounce back and recapture that consistency in his game and be a top goalie." Crawford had a 2.72 GAA and .903 save percentage in 57 games in 2011-12. Of course, it's worth noting that not everyone that suffers a sophomore slump bounces back in their third season or at all. Crawford - and the Chicago Blackhawks' goaltending in general - should be regarded as big gambles going into the 2012-13 campaign.

I've thought for a while that they only help we would get would come from within. I am not confident in it, but that seems to be the course we are taking.

At least he understands that Craw needs confidence to be good. And by looking at all the news this summer regarding Blackhawks and goaltenders, Corey probably doesn't have a ton of confidence. Now if the hawks don't go get someone, Crawford knows that Q has confidence in him which will help him succeed.

Playing goalie is part skill, but a lot of it is in the head.
