It matters from who though... as source quality matters... 'seeing one that says one thing' is pretty much meaningless unless it comes from a reputable source.

Yes, I do get the point that there isn't anything going on ... so I mean fair enough, but this is getting into 'taking it with a grain of salt' territory at this point (if it wasn't there already -and I'm not sure it wasn't anyways..).

I agree with you, however, bullet points of the owners' first proposal is out there on multiple and reputable fronts. I don't think the reports are wrong, but it's a first proposal of a negotiation (you know, shoot for the moon). It's absolutely brutal on the players.

What cheeses my ass are his bullshit comments and fluff pieces like the one posted on the Blackhawks app this afternoon. "Free agent signings may make a media splash but they don't make your team better" and "your strongest growth comes from within" (paraphrased) are bullshit placating comments from a dickhead who didn't get anything done in free agency.

I'm fine with eating a ham sandwich but don't give me a ham sandwich and try to tell me it's a fucking steak. Just tell me you're giving me a fucking ham sandwich and let me decide whether or not I like it. What an asshole.

Cheeses your ass.

So the talk is that the owners proposal for the new CBA is that the cap is going to down fairly significant. I think I saw one tweet that suggested that if the owner's proposal went through that the Hawks' cap would be 4 million and that four or five teams would have to cut salary. Perhaps the Hawks are waiting to see what will happen with the cap and maybe be able to use their remaining cap to snap up some bargains. One can  right?

Oh, and if the cap goes down, there would probably be a percentage reduction on contracts....meaning your prayer will not be answered. :/

Ok- well fair enough; that makes perfect sense. I just got a hang up about Twitter and Facebook "reporting" -which is something I acknowledge.

The thing is, then for some people (in general...) to recognize that a bargaining position is not a fait accompli - but rather a starting point -that the position (and I assume everything in the expiring CBA) is open to negotiation (like pretty much any collective bargaining agreement anywhere.).

___

On another note- I now realize that your skills include uncovering cheese variety irony. . . :D

Hahahahaha I love the ham sandwich analogy.

There's something called being a fan. And you support your team no matter what shitty or dumb ass moves they make. That's part of being a good fan. And that's why so many people want tickets, go to prospect and training camp, and go to the convention.

Hey, JoeWings13, get the **** over it.

You've got two options with the Hawks: higher, harder-to-get tickets or forget that the 2010 season ever happened. If you've got problems with the current state of affairs, that's understandable. But bitching about the team's popularity when they EARNED it by winning a freaking championship is up there with the dumbest shit a fan can do.

You whine like a spoiled 12-year old girl.

He also did the stupidest thing a Hawks fan could do. Not renew season tickets. There's a reason over 1000 people are on the waiting list.

But congrats, you just made someone really happy.

And that's why they can continue to raise the price on tickets. There's so many people out there still willing to buy them.

Heard that was a money thing so I'm not gonna sit here and look down on a guy for that. Hard times out there for a lotta people.

Everything else? Fair game.

from a business sense, those are dumb ass people and the hawks know that they got a new generation of fans and they are going to feast on that. Winning the 2010 cup has gained a huge influx in popularity and it has made it that another cup run may be in distant years. The hawks get an A from me for handling this like a business.

It does when you call people who attend the convention yuppies but go to something like the prospects camp (and complain that it was full).

which dont have anything to do with one another.

Hmmm the prospects camp of today versus how it was in the past has a lot more fanfare and marketing into it. Just another way the Blackhawks reach out to their fans in the summer - dash to madison, live practices and others have to do with the shift in marketing since the Blackhawks have become a hit again. I think they are similar in more ways than you make them out to be, hence why him calling convention people yuppies was humorous/hypocritical in my eyes.

I saw you talking like this either in here or another thread and I was confused. You said something like "the Hawks can continue to throw mediocre talent on to the ice that squeaks in to the playoffs but they'll continue to make a ton of money." (If I'm off, let me know, I'm far too lazy to look it up for myself).

And you used that to justify that the Hawks may not make a serious run at another Cup for awhile because of that fact. They won't do that again until their popularity starts to slide a bit.

While I don't disagree with your point, wouldn't the Hawks organization stand to make even more money from another Cup run? It's not like they're hovering around the salary cap floor right now, so they aren't saving a huge amount of money there. Maybe $4-5 million tops, and I don't think that's a huge number to them.

But a long postseason run adds in more ticket revenue, concession revenue, fan gear revenue, TV rights revenue, radio rights revenue, etc. etc. etc. It seems like the further a team goes, the income takes off at an exponential rate that far surpasses the expenses.

saving 7 million is actually a lot of money in the NHL world. one would think since the hawks sell out they are very profitable but there are two bottom lines that I have seen written. one being in the green and one being awfully close to the red. It is possible. This year might be a bit skewwed since they arent that far from the cap but this is just the begining IMO of the hawks saving money every year.
