Depends on how highly you think of Appel, he might not have been the best pitcher on some teams' boards. But I'm pretty sure Almora signs. He has very little incentive not to now.

I'm guessing Almora signs. That is the point. It almost seems like that the Cubs could be better served if he didn't.

It's not the end of the world if he doesn't sign, but at the same time it'd be cool if he did sign. Might as well get at least one decent position prospect amongst this sea of pitchers.

19th round- 3B Damek Tomscha- Iowa Western CC
From Perfect Game free scouting report on him
Damek Tomscha is a 2010 3B/SS with a 6'2'', 200 lb. frame from Sioux City, IA who attends Sioux City North HS. Square shouldered build, good present strength. Outstanding arm strength at 3B, good athletic actions, needs improvement on footwork/balance, 6.93 runner. Very good raw bat speed, calm balanced stance, lacks ideal hitting rhythm now, line drive swing plane, ball jumps off bat well. Also pitched, different arm stroke than at 3B, upper 80's fastball, some sharpness to slider. Very interesting unrecognized talent witha high ceiling. Signed with Iowa Western CC

Iowa Western Baseball - Damek Tomscha - YouTube

Like what I am reading glad we are taking so many high risk high reward guys if we hit on just 2-3 of these guys we will have a solid foundation in a few years.

almost every prospect is high risk we myswell take the ones with upside instead of the guys without the high upside. I hope our player development guys are ready first time in a while they will have to really earn their pay check with so many projects.

Good thing about this dude is he is already built like he should be we wont have to worry about hitting the weight room like Vitters or other spects.

The Hamann pick is the most interesting so far today for me. It sounds like he was a pretty promising guy the last three years, but then had to deal with some adversity. And has been putting it together recently.

Tomscha was the 20th rated prospect out of juco according to Perfect Game (really have no idea how good that site is, but it seems to be one of the few places that has info besides baseball america). Lang was number 4.

Here is some comments from Prep Baseball Report about Blake Hickman(again really don't know how legitimate the site is, but find any info on guys in these rounds is pretty tough):
Since eighth grade, Hickman has been earmarked as a top-level prospect. Despite the considerable hype surrounding him, Hickman has flourished. Blessed with an incredibly projectable frame, Hickman possesses a top-level arm behind the plate – as he has proved at nearly every national event over the last two years. Hickman’s body-type and arm strength alone have put him on every pro scout radar. Hickman, who has been a starter at Simeon since his freshman year, has a fundamentally sound swing at the plate. The Chicago Public League hasn't seen a prospect as promising as Hickman in a long time. With an athletic frame and overall excellent athleticism, Hickman has the tools to be a premier catching prospect in the country. Hickman possesses a plus arm behind the dish and has quick hands and raw ability at the plate. ... Older brother Christian, a 2009 grad, is a shortstop at Southern University.

Perakslis is apparently the 2nd rated prospect from upper New England. He is 6'1" and if I had to guess he probably throws in the 90s given the trend for the draft.

Here is what I could find on fifth year senior Eddie Orozco:
Fifth-year Sr. RHP Eddie Orozco (5-2, 2.29, 71 IP/60 SO) gives the Highlanders one of the most reliable Friday starters in the league, with good command of a solid three-pitch repertoire.
Orozco, who can sit in the low-to-mid 90s with his fastball, put together another sensational start in a triumph over Sacramento State.

Round 23- LHP Jake Drossner-Council Rock North High School, KS
From Perfect Game:
Jake Drossner is a 2012 LHP with a 6-3 195 lb. frame from Richboro, PA who attends Council Rock North HS. Profile pitcher's build, long lean and projectable. Leg raise delivery, gets turned well, long loose arm action, high 3/4's slot, gets downhill at release and shows very good leverage at release. Fastball topped out at 90 mph, occasional plus late fastball life. Hard curveball spin with big downer shape, gets over curveball well, throws it for strikes. Good arm speed on change up. Three solid present pitches and has an excellent chance to throw harder in the future. Was 84-87 a year ago, now 88-90 with a hammer. Good student, verbal commitment to Maryland.

Round 24- C Jameson Fisher- Zachary HS, LA
Listed as the 22 ranked prospect in LA.

A couple of high school catchers and a couple of juco infielders is what I've seen drafted besides guys that can throw in the 90s.
