#mlbdraft returns to talent because now there's no downside to not signing a guy.

Ben Badler‏@BenBadler

Yup. Fun to watch strategy RT @chatucksdad odd dynamic I didnt foresee, 11th and 12th round picks with more value than 8-10th round picks.

I keep posting how the best talent guys were not going earlier. Any more arguments? So the new CBA is hurting minor leagues by not allowing MLB teams to keep guys playing baseball. Instead now they going to play different sports in college.

There are alot of teams taking college seniors between 7-10 RDs so they have extra cash. Thats not teams taking the best talent. Do you see Appel signing with PIT? I sure dont. Reports are he wanted more then 6 mil and PIT has only 6.6 mil for first 10 RDS.

Who cares if teams aren't taking the best talent in rounds 7-10. Look at the guys that were on the top 30 because basically all of them were gone by the end of the first round. I don't know for certain, but it seems like a higher percentage than usual were taken in the first round.

It does matter cause now were going to see less kids playing baseball. They will be playing other sports.

The best talent guys went in the first four or five rounds plus supp. The signability issues were taken care of in the latter rounds to free up money for the early picks. That's really all I was trying to say. The guys picked in the 6-10 rounds can still be useful though, and will probably be signed for under slot so they can pay the guys who actually merit the investment. And yes, the rounds 11-and-later guys carry no risk, but very few of the ones who actually have the talent down here will sign for $100K or less (or $200K even) to skip college.

I think baseball will be fine. These guys aren't going to stop playing because they are getting less money in the middle rounds. Guys with talent are still going to get big bucks and that means that people who are good at throwing and hitting the ball will still play.

Its players like Dunston and Maples that teams will lose out on cause of this new CBA.

They will be drafted at their appropriate slots then, especially when agents and players know that the slots are almost set in stone.

If they choose another sport like basketball or football they have to go to college right away and even under-the-table payments from coaches and boosters won't be as much as what they're getting paid via the MLB Draft. Not to mention that those sports have less spots for guys in the bigs and are also much more physical and may have shorter careers. There's a pro and con to everything. I'm pretty sure baseball will live.

Exactly if the old CBA was in place each would have probably faced the same decision that Samardzija faced. Some might go to other sports, but baseball has a number of things to offer that other sports don't.

It will live lol. I just dont like how the new CBA working out so far for this draft. Sullivan even wrote today that if there was no cap Cubs would have drafted Appel. They just didnt think they could sign him + other picks

Kevin Goldstein‏@Kevin_Goldstein

The new system was supposed to line up talent with draft slot. With all the senior sign crap from rounds 4-10, it's a complete failure.

BOOM!

That's the reason they'll never admit. RT @michaelwwitt: @Kevin_Goldstein I thought the new system was supposed to save owners money.

@BenBadler Good thing most already have degrees RT @BaseballAmerica We will likely see some 6th-10th rounders released in spring training

So i say people hate CBA so far lol

I would think you would want them to avoid the major league team, d3a, because anything they do to the major league roster at this time is likely to only make it worse.

If they get worse but younger im all for it. I think thats what pisses me off the most. They are a god awfull team and have only 2 guys that are 25 or younger playing on daily basis and as you have put out there 100X Campana is not an answer (i agree but still fun to watch). If team going to suck this bad atleast i want to see the kids to see what potential they have. To see if they can be part of the winning times.
