I disagree w the strategy

Lol, they dont have much other choice. We should be a top 3 pick next year though so there is still hope to draft an ace.

I am not a fan of our draft so far.

Also take top prep arms in the draft in later rounds that other teams avoid due to signability. That's the benefit of going under slot

@BleacherNation: Zagunis looks to be prototypical Cubs type bat minus the power (good hit tool, high BB, low K), and a great athlete behind the plate.

Let's see.. depth wise they needed a LH power bat for corner OF- Check. Added depth at Catcher- Check. Close to ready pitcher- Check

I think they've done good so far....

BR gave us a solid B for Day 1, would've liked a starter in round 1 but it's whatever.

College starter would have made a ton more sense imo as well

The thinking is probably, under slot early on while still getting value, and then over slotting on players that have signability issues and get some steals later on. As long as we load up on pitching in this draft I'm fine with the decision.

Oh I agree that is the strategy, I just disagree with it. The team's prospects are all ready in the next 1-18 months. The team needs some pitching to be ready on the tail end of that.

It would make sense, but at the same time you have so much hitting that you can ship it out for proven pitching when the time comes, get steals in the draft, and sell some of your highly touted hitting prospects for some good MLB pitching at the same time.... makes sense just very risky.

Draft Round 4 (pick 109): Cubs select North Florida Christian HS LHP Carson Sands.

Prob. the start of the pitching overload that they spend over slot on to sign

Especially with some of the prospects starting to lose trade value. Soler is injury prone, Almora I've read from fans here that he's regressed. To get quality pitching you are now talking about Baez/Bryant which to me I couldn't pull the trigger to do if I was the GM of the Cubs.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Its a sad state of affairs when the draft thread has more posts than the last 2 ISTs combined.
