James Faris(Not sure on spelling) is their 9th round. "Pitchability right hander." They didn't seem to have much to say about him.

Ryan Williams in the 10th. Didn't have all that much to say. Sounds like he was a cheaper guy.

I thought we'd see one more overslot guy before today was done... that's disappointing.

To follow up the mlb.com rankings, here's the BA's rankings

(#4) Kyle Schwarber, C/LF - #17
(#49) Jake Stinnett, RHP - #67
(#78) Mark Zagunis, C - #111
(#109) Carson Sands, LHP - #53
(#139) Justin Steele, LHP - #121
(#169) Dylan Cease, RHP - #77
(#199) James Norwood, RHP - #79

Looking like they got a lot of decent level talent rather than a lot of elite players. All of the 5 arms they took look like they could be interesting. In 2012 you had guys like Eddie Butler and Pierce Johnson going in the 40's. In 2011, you had Kyle Crick in the 40's. Henry Owens went in the mid 30's. In 2010, you had Taijuan Walker go in the 40's. Anthony Ranaudo and Noah Syndergaard were late 30's picks. Drew Smyly went in the 60's. So, you can pull some interesting talent out of the middle rounds.

I've also heard that the new CBA kind of neutered this draft in that a lot of the interesting prep players 2 years ago chose to sign rather than go to college and risk the issues with the new slot spending. Overall, I think the arms they got were interesting enough to satisfy me. However, I think you really need to hold out for a elite pitching prospect in a potential Shark trade. Over the past 2 years they've built a lot of depth in pitching of which you could have some diamonds turn up though even if they don't there's a lot of interesting 3-5 types. However, what they are missing are "sure things."

I'd go with we shall see. I don't think there's a Kris Bryant in here. Schwarber could be interesting but after him you're looking at a lot of potential 2nd-4th round types. If some of them shine you could end up looking really good. If they are what you expect it's probably decent but not amazing like you hope with the #4 pick.

Looks like they took the route of college arms that are more polished and could be ready within 2 yrs..

To some extent. Stinnett and Norwood were college arms. However, Sands and Cease are the more intriguing guys and they are prepsters. Steele is also a prep pitcher. After that they did go some more college arms.

@ChrisCotillo: Source: #Cubs in agreement with third-round pick (78th overall) Mark Zagunis for $615K. Under slot value, which is $714,900.

Its a sad state of affairs when the draft thread has more posts than the last 2 ISTs combined.

There's no future because the Cubs don't promote their players. We'll have to wait another 5 years until at least one of these players are promoted the the majors LOL.

"Oh, you're the best player in the minors? You're staying put because we are competing for the worst record in the MLB. Starlin Castro is the only exception. He had two all star appearances at the age of 21 and 22 and we were mad about that so we won't promote anyone else."

The Cubs got potentially two of the biggest steals in Day 2.

James Norwood, a seventh round RHP out of St. Louis University, is a 20 year old junior who is throwing solid fastball strikes and mixing in a curveball, cutter-type slider and changeup. Some scouts like his changeup while others prefer his curveball as his better secondary pitch. Norwood needs innings and experience most to help determine if he can be a future No. 3 or No. 4 starter or if he has to move to a bullpen.

Dylan Cease, a sixth round RHP pitcher out of Milton High School in Georgia, was shaping up to be a selection on Day 1 until a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament cut his senior season short. That makes it more likely that the Vanderbilt commit will choose to go to school, unless he gets a big enough bonus to make him decide otherwise. The right-hander works from a three-quarters slot with lightning-quick arm speed; has a tendency to rush forward after pause in delivery, which in turn causes him to rip open with his front side with his arm dragging behind; arm action is otherwise clean and allows him to create excellent plane; unfair to speculate as to how his current elbow injury (and treatment for said injury) will affect him moving forward.

I would say Cease would have the best chance once healthy. Schwarber is going to have to prove that he can hit a bit before he gets love given that many think of him as a 1B/DH type. Proving that he can handle being behind the plate or LF would see his stock skyrocket on prospect lists. If not he is going to have to mash, and mash at higher levels than he will get to at least the end of 2015. Sands was a fast riser type that just recently really moved into the top 50 draft prospect lists so he will need to show the velocity gains and a bit before he gets top 100 love I guess. Cease has to be healthy, but once he is the old saying you can't teach 99 very much applies.

That is the hope. The Cubs have truly come a long way from three years ago Brett Jackson being the best power hitter in the system. However, a long way to go before Schwarber, Bryant, Baez, etc. will actually make a new murders row.

I wrote a few thoughts up on the draft for World Series Dreaming.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The draft happens once a year. There are over 50 ISTs. It makes sense to me.

Holy shit dude. :obama:

The point is that people are far more excited about the "future" than the present team.

But I know, Thoyer and stuffz :fap:
