(#49) Jake Stinnett, RHP - #67
(#78) Mark Zagunis, C - #111
(#109) Carson Sands, LHP - #53
(#139) Justin Steele, LHP - #121
(#169) Dylan Cease, RHP - #77
(#199) James Norwood, RHP - #79
Looking like they got a lot of decent level talent rather than a lot of elite players. All of the 5 arms they took look like they could be interesting. In 2012 you had guys like Eddie Butler and Pierce Johnson going in the 40's. In 2011, you had Kyle Crick in the 40's. Henry Owens went in the mid 30's. In 2010, you had Taijuan Walker go in the 40's. Anthony Ranaudo and Noah Syndergaard were late 30's picks. Drew Smyly went in the 60's. So, you can pull some interesting talent out of the middle rounds.
I've also heard that the new CBA kind of neutered this draft in that a lot of the interesting prep players 2 years ago chose to sign rather than go to college and risk the issues with the new slot spending. Overall, I think the arms they got were interesting enough to satisfy me. However, I think you really need to hold out for a elite pitching prospect in a potential Shark trade. Over the past 2 years they've built a lot of depth in pitching of which you could have some diamonds turn up though even if they don't there's a lot of interesting 3-5 types. However, what they are missing are "sure things."
Looks like they took the route of college arms that are more polished and could be ready within 2 yrs..

Its a sad state of affairs when the draft thread has more posts than the last 2 ISTs combined.

I would say Cease would have the best chance once healthy. Schwarber is going to have to prove that he can hit a bit before he gets love given that many think of him as a 1B/DH type. Proving that he can handle being behind the plate or LF would see his stock skyrocket on prospect lists. If not he is going to have to mash, and mash at higher levels than he will get to at least the end of 2015. Sands was a fast riser type that just recently really moved into the top 50 draft prospect lists so he will need to show the velocity gains and a bit before he gets top 100 love I guess. Cease has to be healthy, but once he is the old saying you can't teach 99 very much applies.Any top 100 guys for the next ranking?

That is the hope. The Cubs have truly come a long way from three years ago Brett Jackson being the best power hitter in the system. However, a long way to go before Schwarber, Bryant, Baez, etc. will actually make a new murders row.Cubs gonna have a lot of power in the lineup in 3 years
The draft happens once a year. There are over 50 ISTs. It makes sense to me.
