These are just shitty pipe dreams, with no looking past the next five minutes. Statsny isn't taking less than 6.5, so you know it'll be at least 7 million he ends up getting, and that means multiple moves of important key players, not just Sharp, in order to sign one player who would then have a presumably long term, 7m + contract to go along with Toews/Kane probable near 9m dollar or more cap hits that take into effect the next year which means you're making even more moves the next offseason as well than you would've had to, moves that didn't have to be made.

How about we just bring back the team that was a shot away from back to back Finals who will be better than they were this past season with Teuvo ? Radical idea, I know.

Well Stastny isn't old, and you can't really expect a player, a two way center no less, to take over 2 million less than his current contract while he's in the prime years of his career and is out testing the open market in the league with a rising salary cap. Just not going to happen.

Kinda like how Gaborik took a $1.425M pay cut?

You're probably right though, some dumb team will probably pay him a ridiculous amount and then he will be bought out by the time he's 32. There's some stupid GM's in this league, they never learn.

IMO, Stastny should be making no more than Callahan. If someone signs him for $7M+, that would mean his cap hit is top 20 in the league, and if it's more than $7M, he would be paid as a top 5 center. Is someone dumb enough to do it? Probably. But honestly, I can't see anyone biting on a $7M cap hit.

Maybe someone is dumb enough to give him his $6.6M again, which is still pretty much in the top 10 salaries for centers, and slightly less stupid, but still stupid nonetheless. He's good, but not top 10, he should be just outside the top 20 IMO.

St. Louis will probably end up being that team, they have $18M in cap space with 19 guys signed. This is going to be the year Ken Hitchcock gets fired, watch. lol

Is that why they retained 800k (until 2022) of Luongo's salary when they traded him to Florida? That's $6,400,000 of salary retained.

What's another $2M, more or less, over the next 2 years?

They literally just did it this year, so it seems like maybe they are the type of ownership that would do that. They also bought out David Booth and Keith Ballard as their amnesty buyouts, doesn't count against the cap but it comes out of their wallet. I think it sounds perfectly reasonable to think they would do it again if the right deal presented itself.

$5.8M is actually about right. I'd paid it.

Of course, he's no replacement for Marty St Louis. No one is. Some of its overpayment, but he's the kind of guy you want on your team.

buy outs are different esp when dealing with lower quality players they dont belong in the same discussion. Lou is also a completely different situation. he wasnt an easy move as we all saw. they had no choice but to take on that retainment or he would probably still be a canuck. kesler wont be difficult to deal. canucks will not have to nor do they want to pay a guy who has demanded a trade and whos cap hit really isnt that bad for other teams.

Talk of three team trade involving Kesler, so simple Van-Chi trade might not be the end result. Might make more expendable Hawks/prospects in play, rather than the more "untouchables", however you define those. Raanta and Smith to 2 year deals.

I wouldn't rule out a 3 team trade. I think that's a good call.

If the Canucks want younger players, maybe it's someone like Oduya, Bickell, Versteeg, Shaw, Leddy, etc.. etc.. involved in a trade to get whoever the Canucks are looking for.

I know I shouldn't but this is what Jaeckel just put up.

Hawks offer multi-player deal to Florida? Rumored offer: Sharp, Roszival, D prospect Adam Clendening and Chicago #1 to Florida for their number 1 and Erik Gudbranson

Exactly. Many sources now reporting Kesler to Anaheim is all but done.

Doesn't matter. Hawks have a guy that tore it up at the Jr's tournament.
