I am sure some of the youngsters will get a shot next year, they need to get their feet wet in the NHL if the Hawks are to stay competitive. Q not giving youngsters a fair shot is in my eyes a myth. Sometimes certain players don't just work out and it has nothing to do with the coach hating on young guys.

Tell that to Saad, Leddy, Kruger, Shaw, Smith...Nordstrom saw time....Kane and Toews were 19 & 20. Versteeg came up as a rookie/21yr old with Q

He just didn't work out. Why is that so hard for some to understand. Nope, got to be that awful Q hating on young guys.

*ignores young players that have established themselves as regular players on the team*

I think Q wants the young players to be able to play the way the team does and their role. Some guys, especially the rookie or 2nd year AHLers are coming from teams where they are top dog (Pirri, Morin). Some have a hard time accepting that role which I think is why Pirri was traded. Offensively he has some good skill, but the jock on him was he was lax in his own zone. In the NHL, unless you are supremely offensively talented (Kane, Crosby, Ovechkin) you're going to be expected to play both ways.

Shaw, Kruger, Leddy, Smith, Saad all have be able to adjust and play the role the team needed....and sometime their roles change like Saad as a offensive threat and Shaw going from 4th line to able to play 2nd C. Tons of other guys never accept their roles, and that's why the AHL are filled with guys who are scoring dynamos in juniors and minors, but can't crack a NHL team lineup.

It's my understanding Pirri was cut loose for reasons not related to his ability to play in the NHL. Also I am not railing on Q, he's brought us two cups, I am saying that there are young players being moved because of personal feelings. At any rate I think we are in great shape with our team and current prospects. Not mad at Q at all. At least not for this.

I don't see a splash free agent signing. Would take a major move trade wise to free cap space. I look for them to unload under performing players, bring up a yewt or two, and sign a few veteran players at bargain rates to fill out the roster.

I worry about Raanta being stolen away with an offer sheet and them failing to match it.

If anybody offers Raanta a sheet, Stan will gladly take the picks.

This is 100% accurate. When he went back to Rockford he was nothing but a miserable spoiled kid.

I can only imagine what he said to Q and/or Bowman to get him exiled to the AHL.

League revenue this year was $3.7B which would mean about $70M cap and could be up to $76M next year. Which is nice and should mean that Bowman doesn't need to cut too much of the team to accommodate the new Toews & Kane deals.

That's the thing--we really don't know. IMHO Morin in his 1 game looked better than Versteeg, Nordstrom, & Bollig. I.E. He and regin should have played on play alone. But if he was being a smegma-encrusted douchenozzle at practice and whatnot, then yeah, I can see Q not icing him because, unlike Regin, he wasn't *that* much better...well, maybe *that* much better than Versteeg.

Is the cap directly linked to a percentage of revenue or something like that? How do they calculate it and what's to stop the owners from just deciding to not raise it as much as everyone thought? Did the NHLPA negotiate a percentage of revenue or something like that?

It's tied to league revenue, always been like that since the salary cap was instituted. It's in the CBA and has some fancy formula to calculate the cap for every season. The owners and the NHLPA signed off on the CBA, so they are bound by it so they can't do any funny business.

Sounds like the Hawks have signed or are about to sign Dennis Rasmussen, a center, from the Swedish elite league. 23 years old with decent size at 6'4" and 210lbs. Had a pretty solid season for his team.

Per Elite Prospects:

"Rasmussen is a center with good size and wheels, as well as two-way acumen. Has fine stick skills and handles the puck well. Drives the net and battles along the boards. Has a hard wrist shot and a fast release. Useful on the penalty kill and can play wing in a pinch."

Sounds good, but makes one wonder why he has not been drafted yet....unless he is a late bloomer.
